There's now a timeline of events available for the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary parade scheduled to take place on June 14, which is also President Donald Trump's birthday.

The America250 initiative shared the schedule on Wednesday, along with a statement about the parade and celebration in D.C., confirming new details about what the parade will look like.

The parade will commemorate the Army's long history, "while looking boldly toward the next 250 years of American patriotism and technological advancement," the statement says.

Attendees can expect historical reenactors with "period-accurate equipment," Army vehicles, flyovers and military bands, the statement says.

The parade is expected to include 6,600 soldiers, 50 military aircraft and 150 vehicles, Lt. Col. Ruth Castro, a spokeswoman for the Army, confirmed to CNBC this month. It's scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and follow a route from the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, across the Memorial Bridge and then east on Constitution Avenue NW along the National Mall.

The parade will be followed by a parachute jump by the Army's Golden Knights, a concert and fireworks, the Associated Press reported.

Trump will speak at the event, which will take place on his 79th birthday.

"President Donald J. Trump will join veterans, active-duty troops, wounded warriors, Gold Star Families, and Patriotic Americans from across the country to celebrate our heroes who have protected our country through strength and selflessness," the statement says.

"Under President Trump's leadership, the U.S. Army has been restored to strength and readiness," it continues.

Trump attempted to put on a similar parade during his first term in office but had to cancel it because of cost concerns. The 2025 parade could cost between $25 million and $45 million, the Army said.

In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker, Trump said the cost of the forthcoming parade was "peanuts compared to the value of doing it."

Part of the cost includes measures like the Army placing large metal plates at key points on D.C. streets to better protect the pavement from the movements of 25 M1 Abrams main battle tanks.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has said if tanks are used on the city's roads, funding to repair any damage should also be part of the parade plans. It is unclear if that will happen. When asked for a response to the Army's plan for metal plates earlier this month, Bowser's office referred the AP to her past comments.

Washington, D.C. – More than 40 business and community leaders arrived in the nation’s capital this week for the Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting to discuss pressing issues at the national level that are impacting the local region.

The “Fly-In” event, which ran from May 19 to May 21, is a chance for the Chamber to chat with U.S. Congressional delegates from North Dakota and Minnesota, along with federal agencies and others who have a stake in shaping the local area.

“It’s a very influential time for us to be here,” Chamber CEO Shannon Full told The Flag’s Scott Hennen.

Full says the trip began with a briefing at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce about the current trade and tariff climate.

Other topics covered included immigration, agriculture and artificial intelligence.

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and North Dakota U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer held a briefing about defending the country, along with immigration and workforce matters.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum also held a session about improving the relationship between farmers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the effort to eliminate roadblocks to pipeline development.

Dustin Mitzel, who runs Happy Harry’s Bottle Shops in Fargo, expressed his concerns about how fewer customers are coming across the northern border to buy his products.

Mitzel says he’s lost as much as 10% of business out of Canada so far this year.

“The tariff thing obviously upset them,” said Mitzel. “But I think it was the tone about the 51st state [talk from Trump] that got them fired up and extra fuel to say we’re frustrated.”

Levi Otis, who operates Ellingson Drainage, is concerned about finding enough workers to run his business and wants to see leaders “tone down some of the rhetoric” on trade and immigration to “get some deals done.”

“Let’s have some real conversations on how we can find employees who want to come work for a short time or want to come move to North Dakota,” said Otis.

On their website, the Chamber writes the event would “focus on building partnerships, advancing critical regional issues and strengthening our public policy efforts.”

Washington, D.C., retained its title as the top city for public parks for a fifth consecutive year.

The Trust for Public Land’s 2025 ParkScore Index ranked Washington as the top city, followed closely by Irvine, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Cincinnati, Ohio. Arlington, Virginia, located across the Potomac River from Washington, ranked seventh on the list.

Washington ranked first on the list partly because of accessibility to parks. Ninety-nine percent of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, and 23% of the city’s land is reserved for parks.

“We’re proud that for the fifth year in a row, our park system has earned the top spot,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said in a statement. “This recognition is a testament to our continued investments in parks, playgrounds, and recreation centers across all eight wards, where residents and visitors alike come together to relax, play, and build community.”

“From neighborhood playgrounds to the National Mall, we’re proud to have a park system that is accessible, beautiful, and welcoming. Especially as we head into the summer, we invite everyone to come experience all that DC parks have to offer,” Bowser added.

The National Park Service manages a significant portion of Washington’s land. The city boasts various large parks, including the National Mall and Rock Creek Park, which help it rank among public parks. Washington received a ParkScore of 85.5 out of 100.

The Trust for Public Land noted Irvine’s continued work on the Great Park, which helped it rise from fourth place in 2024 to second overall in 2025. The rankings are determined by park access, equity, acreage, investment, and amenities.

According to the rankings, Boise, Idaho, was rated as the best park system for dogs, and Las Vegas, Nevada, ranked as the top park system for playgrounds.

As a result of the recent federal layoffs under the Trump administration, many former employees are selling their homes and moving. After the massive job cuts that gravely impacted the city of Washington, D.C. and surrounding counties, many of these homeowners are looking elsewhere to live. Without these high-paying federal jobs, homeowners in these areas can no longer afford the high cost of living in these areas.

While inventory across the U.S. rose to 14.2%, home inventory in the metro D.C. area rose to 25% quickly after layoffs began. A few suburbs were hit even harder, notably Alexandria, Virginia, 40.9%, Montgomery County, Maryland, 38.5%, and Loudoun County, Virginia, 36.8%, where active listings more than doubled the national average.

Unfortunately, this surge in inventory isn't only occurring in the Washington, D.C. area. While the increase in this metro area may have occurred much more rapidly than in most other areas nationwide due to massive layoffs, other metro areas across the country, especially in the Sunbelt, are also seeing a rise in inventory.

While an increase in inventory usually means good news, there still hasn't been much movement among home buyers because home prices haven't come down as inventory increases.

On a more positive note, as inventory continues to grow nationwide, this may increase favorable buying conditions for homebuyers in the future. In the meantime, buyers should have no trouble finding a dream home in the nation's capital as long as plenty of options remain available and they are able to afford the asking prices.
