Toledo, OH (May 5, 2025) – Emergency responders were dispatched Sunday to a traffic crash with reported injuries at the intersection of Secor Road and Monroe Street in the DeVeaux neighborhood of Toledo.

The collision occurred on May 4, though the precise time of the incident has not been publicly confirmed. Upon arrival, Toledo Fire & Rescue units provided care to the injured at the scene. At least one person sustained injuries and may have been transported to a local hospital for further medical attention. The severity of the injuries has not yet been disclosed.

This crash occurred at a well-known and heavily traveled intersection in northwest Toledo, where Monroe St and Secor Rd serve as key arterial routes for both residential and commercial traffic. Temporary delays were likely as first responders worked to assess the scene and restore normal traffic flow.

The exact number of vehicles involved and the cause of the crash remain under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved.

Lucas County voters cast ballots Tuesday in the Toledo mayoral primary and a series of tax levies that will affect services from fire protection to parkland preservation.

Incumbent Wade Kapszukiewicz, who is seeking a third term, and challenger Roberto Torres, who wants to give Toledoans a new mayor, will move on to the general election in November.

Kapszukiewicz took a majority of the votes with over 50%, according to unofficial election results, while Torres edged out the third candidate, Harold Harris, by a margin of about 360 votes.

“I’m thankful to the voters for continuing to show confidence in my leadership as we all work together to move Toledo forward," Kapszukiewicz told WTOL 11 on Tuesday. "When it comes to public safety, economic development and infrastructure improvements, Toledo is far better off today than it has been in years — and tonight’s results showed that Toledoans want to continue to build on our momentum. I will work to continue to earn the trust of the voters as we move toward the November election and the next 4 years as mayor.”

Torres said he is proud of the work his campaign did and said his identity as a Latino in the general election is important to him.

"It'll be historic for our community in the sense that it would be — that I know of — the first time a person of Latino descent is actually going to be in the general election," he said. "But more so, I think what's very historic is that this is a grassroots campaign ... we don't have party leadership here, we don't have any corporate leaders. This is really done by the people in the community who have stepped forward and said we need change."

The Toledo Metroparks levy, which provides funds for maintenance of all 19 parks for the next 10 years, passed with 52% of Lucas County voters in favor.

Cities with the most expensive homes in the Toledo metro area

Purchasing a home is one of the most important investments there is. More than a place to live, homeownership is an asset with the potential to tremendously rise in value. But with home prices reaching record heights, affordability plays a huge role for buyers.

The typical home value in the United States was $359,741 in March, 1.2% higher than the year before.

High mortgage rates are also making monthly payments more expensive; as of April 17, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate sits at 6.83%.

Although home prices have inflated all across the U.S., there are some cities that command a higher price tag than others. Location, size, age, and condition are all contributing factors to home value.

Stacker compiled a list of cities with the most expensive homes in the Toledo metro area using data from Zillow. Charts show the monthly typical home value since January 2018. Data was available for 49 cities and towns.

Meta has announced plans for a second data center campus outside Toledo in northern Ohio.

The Regional Growth Partnership (RGP), JobsOhio, and Meta announced this week that the social media company will be building a new “AI-optimized data center” in Northwest Ohio.

The 715,000-square-foot (66,425 sqm) project, known as the Bowling Green Data Center, will be located on a 280-acre site in Middleton Township, Wood County.

Ground has been broken on the site, off State Rt. 582 between State Rt. 25 and I-75.

“We are thrilled that we will be building our Bowling Green Data Center right here in Wood County. We selected Middleton Township for a number of reasons, including great access to infrastructure and renewable energy, a strong pool of talent, and a wonderful set of community partners that have helped us move this project forward,” said Brad Davis, director of data center community and economic development at Meta. “We are excited to become part of the Wood County community, and we look forward to having a strong, mutually beneficial partnership for years to come.”

The owner of Facebook, Whatsapp, and Instagram will reportedly invest $800 million in the project. This will be the company’s 28th data center worldwide, and the second in Ohio.

“Ohio is shaping the future of the data-driven digital economy, and we are pleased that Meta chose Wood County for this new investment,” added Mike DeWine, Ohio Governor. “Northwest Ohio’s talent pipeline and strategic location will create an environment where Meta, and the other technology companies they attract, can thrive while bringing new opportunities for our regional workforce and their families.”

Reports that a ‘Fortune 200 tech company’ was looking at developing a large campus in the area surfaced back in 2023 and was working through the shell company Liames LLC for what was previously known as Project Accordion.

Meta has an existing Ohio campus outside Columbus in New Albany. Work started on that site in 2017, with the campus launching in 2020. Expansion plans were announced in 2022.
