The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has identified and located the suspect of a homicide investigation in Tampa.

On Friday, April 25, 2025, at 9:34 p.m., HCSO's Communications Center received a call regarding possible shots fired near the 5300 block of Southwick Drive in Tampa.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found Heidi Berberovic, 58, deceased with upper body trauma inside her residence.

Through investigative means, detectives identified the victim's estranged spouse, Jasmin Berberovic, 55, as a suspect. On April 26, 2025, detectives located Jasmin Berberovic deceased inside a home on the 5600 block of Tranquility Oaks Drive with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"This is a heartbreaking case of domestic violence that has left a family and community mourning," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our detectives worked quickly to uncover the truth and locate the suspect. We remain committed to seeking justice for victims and supporting those impacted by these tragic events."

This is an ongoing investigation; any further information will come from the Public Affairs Office.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is conducting a homicide investigation in Tampa.

On April 25, 2025, at 9:34 p.m., HCSO's Communications Center received a 911 call reporting shots fired near the 5300 block of Southwick Drive in Tampa.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found an adult female victim with upper body trauma who was deceased inside a residence.

"This is a heartbreaking loss of life that has shaken our community," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "Our deputies and detectives are committed to uncovering the truth and holding the individual accountable for this violence."

This is an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the community.

Any further information will come from the Public Affairs Office.

Sunrise, Fla. – Game 3.

After taking care of business on the road, the Florida Panthers will carry a 2-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference First Round back to their own barn when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

It will be the first playoff game in Sunrise since the Panthers lifted Lord Stanley in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last June.

“They've been waiting for the playoff games,” defenseman Niko Mikkola said of playing in front of Panther fans for the first time this postseason. “It's going to be amazing.”

Carrying momentum into the weekend after a 2-0 win on Thursday, the Panthers shut down one of the league’s best offenses, going a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill and blocking 20 shots.

Earning his fourth career playoff shutout (a franchise record) in a goalie battle with fellow future Hall of Famer Andrei Vasilevskiy, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped all 19 shots he faced in the win.

Through two games, Bobrovsky boasts a .951 save percentage in the series.

For Tampa, Vasilevskiy bounced back from an uncharacteristic .647 save percentage in Game 1 to post a .955 save percentage in Game 2.

Both are expected to start in Game 3.

Continuing to find the back of the net, Nate Schmidt scored his second straight game winner, joining Paul Coffey and Nicklas Lidstrom as the only defensemen in NHL history to score the game-winning goals in both Games 1 and 2 of a series.

The biggest news of the night and around the hockey world came from a dangerous high hit on Aleksander Barkov from Lightning forward Brandon Hagel in the third period that resulted in a five-minute major and the Panthers captain leaving the game.

“He hasn’t been ruled out yet, and he hasn’t been cleared,” head coach Paul Maurice said of Barkov’s status following Friday’s practice.

Later on Friday, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Hagel, who scored 35 goals during the regular season, will be suspended for one game, keeping him out of Game 3.

As for Barkov, news regarding his status for Game 3 should come around 11 a.m. ET.

In five and a half periods of play, the two-time Selke Trophy winner has recorded a series-leading three assists.

While the Panthers are uncertain if No. 16 will play, they do know that Aaron Ekblad will be back in the lineup after serving a 20-game suspension.

Playing in 56 contests during the regular season, the top-pair defenseman averaged a team-high 23:31 of ice time, while also compiling 33 points (three goals, 30 assists) and a +11 plus/minutes rating.

“Big thing, for sure,” said Mikkola. “On the ice, he’s a great player. He’s been a part of the group for a long time. In the locker room, he’s a loud guy and big character. It’s great to have him back.”

Jumping right back into it, No. 5 is expected to slide back in all his usual roles, per Maurice.

Despite everything that is going on, any potential lineup changes, and being up 2-0 in the series, the mindset of the Panthers remains the same.

“Your mindset can’t change whether you’re up or down in a series,” said forward Evan Rodrigues. “The next game is always the biggest one and that’s been our mindset going all the way back to last year and I’m sure for the guys that were here, going back the year before.”

Limiting the star power of the Lightning so far, Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point have been held to just two points combined through two games. During the regular season, that dynamic duo combined for 203 points, including a league-leading 121 points from Kucherov.

With the series far from over, the Panthers will have to stick to the game plan and not give the Lightning any space to potentially turn the tide.

“We put ourselves in a good position here,” said Seth Jones after the Game 2 win. “We understand the series isn’t over, that’s a great team over there and they’re capable of putting up big numbers.”

Heidy Sanchez Tejeda's husband, a Cuban-born U.S. citizen is now frantically trying to get her back to Tampa.

TAMPA, Fla. — A man in Tampa is trying desperately to get his wife back to the U.S. after she and dozens of other Cubans were deported from Florida this week.

Carlos Yunier Valle says his wife, Heidy Sanchez Tejeda, was in the process of a getting a Green Card but when she went for an ICE check-in on Tuesday, they detained her. He worries he and their 16-month-old daughter won't be reunited with her anytime soon.

“The last time I spoke with her was [Friday] morning and then [Friday] afternoon I spoke with her and she is in Cuba,” he said through a translator.

Valle came from Cuba nearly 20 years ago after his family won a lottery. He says he applied for citizenship as soon as he was eligible, becoming a U.S. citizen about 15 years ago.

“We were escaping misery and hunger and all the problems that are there,” he said. “It was a lot worse for Heidy because she was suffering a lot more.”

As living conditions in Cuba continued to worsen in recent years, Tejeda fled to Mexico in 2020, arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border hoping to gain entry and eventually apply for citizenship via the federal Cuban Adjustment Act.

She waited in Mexico for months while her entry application was reviewed. At first, she was expecting to be sent back to Cuba, but she was eventually let in.

“It seems that Cuba and the U.S. didn't have a relationship, so they were not taking in prisoners [back to Cuba],” he said. “So then they decide to let her into the U.S.”

But she came here under a form I-220 “Order of Supervision meaning she could be deported at any time. She met Valle in Tampa in 2021, they married in 2023, and had a baby, Kailyn. She also received a work authorization, is currently a licensed certified nursing assistant, and works as a home health aide, caring for seniors.

In 2023, she also applied for more permanent status because she was now married to a citizen. Immigration law allows for fiancées and spouses of citizens special pathways to permanent, lawful status. The I-220 status meant yearly check-ins with ICE but she got a call Monday saying to come into the Tampa office the next day.

“A lot of people even told me not to go to the appointment, because they would leave her detained,” Valle says. “But because we want to do the things right, the way that we're supposed to, we went.”

She was taken into custody. Thursday, she was sent back to Havana on a plane with other Cubans with the same status.

“I agree that they are deporting people that are criminals, but why are you targeting innocent people?” he said. “Why are you targeting family people that are just working hard?”

The Miami Herald reported local law enforcement is working with ICE on “Operation Tidal Wave” with a goal to deport 800 immigrants.

This year, the Trump Administration tried to remove Temporary Protected Status for immigrants from dangerous countries like Cuba and Venezuela, but a federal judge stayed parole termination letters that would’ve subjected more Cubans to deportation.

10 Tampa Bay was able to speak to an ICE spokesperson in Tampa late this afternoon. While they couldn't confirm where Tejeda currently is, they have a team reviewing records and are waiting for clearance from the D.C. office before they can release more information.

The Florida Panthers will look to follow up on an excellent Game 1 performance with another win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Lightning were dismantled in the first game of the series, losing 6-2 in front of their home fans.

Despite entering Game 1 as slight underdogs, the Panthers showed no signs of timidity, with forward Sam Bennett scoring just a couple of minutes into the first period. The defense handled a Tampa Bay offense that was ranked first in goals per game during the regular season well, only allowing a couple of scores while forcing the Lightning to play outside their comfort zone. Another strong defensive performance will be necessary to score a second straight road upset.

Just about everything went wrong for the Lightning in the first game of the series. The offense never seemed to find a rhythm, while the top-five defense was shelled by a Panthers attack that ranked in the middle of the pack in most offensive metrics during the regular season. Allowing six goals should light a competitive fire under Tampa Bay's blueliners, while the offense will look to return to form against a talented Florida defensive effort.

Luckily for the Lightning, they have a day in between to watch video, do some prep, and get their minds right for what feels like a pivotal Game 2 in this series. Tampa's ability to bounce back in games after losses in the playoffs has always been strong. I see that being the case once again."

It is hard to see Tampa Bay's poor performance in the series opener as anything but an anomaly. The Lightning should return to form, particularly on the defensive end, to recover from the beatdown they received in Game 1. The fact that this game will take place on Tampa Bay's home ice is also hugely beneficial to the Lightning, who were far better at home than they were on the road during the regular season. Their moneyline is a smart play.
