Construction on Stockton's newest location of Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee is underway at Weberstown Mall.

The restaurant will be built from the ground up in the former Grand Buffet location at 4704 Pacific Ave.

Demolition crews have already torn down the old restaurant building across from Target, and a sign announcing Jollibee as the new occupant has been hung in front of the construction site.

Brand representatives from Jollibee said an opening date for the restaurant had not been confirmed as of Monday, but it is expected to open sometime in 2025.

Jollibee is no stranger to Stockton. The chain previously had a restaurant at 7840 West Lane Ste. D-1, but it closed in 2018. Currently, the closest Jollibee locations are in Brentwood, Sacramento, Concord and Fairfield.

Its Weberstown Mall location will join the mall's other eateries, including Ahipoki, Charleys Cheesesteaks, Chipotle and Panera Bread.

When it opens, Jollibee will have to compete with two other popular fried chicken joints — Buffalo Wild Wings and Raising Cane's — which are located across the street in the Target shopping center at Pacific Avenue and March Lane.

Jollibee was founded in the Philippines in 1978. Nearly five decades later, the company operates 78 restaurants in the United States, including 32 in California.

Jollibee serves the "chickenjoy," its signature crispy fried chicken, "jolly spaghetti," a sweet-style spaghetti with banana ketchup, and peach mango pie for dessert, among other menu items.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Stockton Kings, the NBA G League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, earned the first NBA G League title in franchise history on Monday night at Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee, Fla. The Kings defeated the Osceola Magic, 118-110, in Game 3 of the NBA G League Finals presented by Youtube TV.

The Stockton Kings trailed by one point (21-22) with 1:51 left in the first quarter, before the Osceola Magic’s 7-0 run put them up 29-21. In the second quarter, the Magic led by as much as 15 points, but the Kings put themselves in striking distance before the half, trailing 49-55. The Kings kept working to close the gap in the third quarter ending with a score of 73-82 before bringing it to a one-point game with 9:37 left in the fourth quarter (81-82). The Kings took their first lead (85-82) at the 9:07 mark in the final frame before claiming a 98-95 lead with 4:12 left in the game. Stockton held the lead to close out the fourth quarter, winning their first NBA G League championship in franchise history, 118-110.

Stockton Kings forward Dexter Dennis paced the Kings off the bench with 23 points and six rebounds. Forward Terry Taylor ended the night with 22 points and 12 rebounds, notching another double-double. Forward Isaac Jones contributed 21 points and 13 rebounds while on assignment from the Sacramento Kings. Guard Mason Jones banked 19 points and 13 assists, while center Skal Labissière put up 12 points and seven rebounds. Guard Jon Elmore scored 11 points. Forward Isaiah Crawford and guard Chasson Randle added six points and four points, respectively.

Magic guard Ethan Thompson led all scorers with 28 points. Forward Myron Gardner recorded 20 points and 14 rebounds and guard Javonte Smart posted 20 points off the bench. Center Jalen Slawson tallied 12 points. Guard Mac McClung and center Patrick Gardner filed in 11 points each. Forward Alex Morales contributed eight points.

Investor Grupe Huber of Stockton, California, has acquired the 14-property retail center known as The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley for $36 million, according to CoStar and public data.

The shopping center was built in 2008 in the Stockton suburb of Manteca, and the June 2024 deal brokered by Colliers was reported to be the city's largest retail sale by total price in more than a decade. Promenade Shops is also among the city's largest retail properties, spanning 54 acres with 400,000 square feet of retail space.

The buyer and brokers said plans are in the works for redevelopment at the Manteca property, as Grupe Huber looks to fill about 100,000 square feet of vacancies with new tenants to complement existing ones that include Bass Pro Shops, AMC Theatres, J.C. Penney and Valley Fitness.

A panel of local real estate experts chose this deal to receive a CoStar Impact Award for sale/acquisition of the year for the Stockton/Modesto region, based on prospects for rejuvenating an established property and bringing other new business to the area in coming months.

About the sale: Grupe Huber acquired The Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley from a seller group that included Newark, New Jersey-based PGIM and Poag Development Group of Memphis, Tennessee, according to CoStar and public data.

What the judges said: "It's an active local group coming in with multiple opportunities to infuse capital into the project and reinvigorate the lifestyle center over the next several years," said Victor Adjei, director of asset management at Graceada Partners in Modesto. He called the acquisition "a win for the Manteca and surrounding markets."

"Promenade was a huge deal. Huge!" said John Hillas, principal at Hillas Appraisal Co. in Modesto.

Thaddeus "Hugh" Windsor

Passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025 in Stockton CA.

Born June 28, 1931, to Katie Leah Butler and Earl Windsor in Austin, TX, Hugh was named after St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of desperate situations. Ironically, he didn't love his saintly name and preferred going by Hugh. Perhaps the saintly vibes did rub off, though, because Hugh had the patience of a saint—especially when dealing with the DMV.

During the Dust Bowl, the family moved to California, where Hugh attended local schools and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1949. Shortly after, he joined the Stockton DMV, earning the nickname "Duke" (not to be confused with the Duke of Windsor, but close enough). He moved around California climbing the DMV ranks, retiring after 38 years as the manager of the Stockton DMV. His most legendary DMV tale? Meeting the love of his life, Mary Anne Coomes, who worked at a nearby car lot. She would often come to the DMV and insisted on Hugh to help her. They married in 1956, and after 60+ years together, she passed away in 2021.

Hugh and Mary had three kids, including Steven (who passed in 2023), Valerie (Carl), and Kimberly (Joseph). Hugh was the epitome of "Dad Goals” kind, generous, and rarely seen without a grin. When he was excited, he'd do "The Windsor Rub"—a combination of hand clapping and rubbing that became a family tradition. If you ever saw a large group of people doing it at once in public, you’d know it was a Windsor family reunion.

Despite working full-time, Hugh earned his degree, became a real estate broker, and eventually started an appraisal company, Windsor Realty and Appraisal with his daughters. He said it was one of the best times of his life.

Hugh and Mary loved road trips in their RV, completing the ultimate goal: stickers from all 50 states. They also adored their 7 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids, taking them on adventurous trips and teaching them life lessons, often involving an “Indian trick” or two. And if you ever left his house, you were guaranteed a bag of candy and chips for the road—classic Windsor tradition that will be dearly missed.
