TAMPA - A teacher at a Spring Hill school has been arrested after he allegedly showed a picture of his private parts to a 15-year-old student, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The student at Explorer K-8 told investigators that he was in Jonathan Rowe's classroom during a planning period when he asked to see a picture that the two had previously taken together.

As Rowe scrolled through his camera roll, the student told deputies that he would stop on photos of what he believed was Rowe's private parts.

That is when Rowe allegedly asked the student to go into the bathroom to take pictures of his private parts to then show Rowe.

Investigators say that Rowe declined to confirm whether he showed the student pictures of his private parts, but he did tell them that he does have the graphic photos on his phone.

Rowe has been with Explorer since the start of the current school year, and he is a citizen of Jamaica, currently in the United States on a J-1 visa.

The J-1 visa allows foreign nationals to enter the country for exchange or educational programs.

Rowe was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center. His bond is set at $25,000.

He has been charged with showing obscene material to a minor and unlawful use of a two-way device.

SPRING HILL, Fla — The Hernando County Sheriff (HCSO) said a man has been arrested after he lit a house on fire after barricading themselves in the home for several hours in Spring Hill.

The HCSO said they went to the home at the 5000 block of Bromley Avenue in Spring Hill around 1 p.m. Monday after they received reports of a man running in and out of a house and screaming they had bombs.

The man was identified as Leonardo Morales. Sheriff Al Nienhuis said that deputies had been called to this home around 130 times before, and he had significant mental health issues.

Deputies attempted to negotiate with Morales inside the home for several hours. HCSO said that at one point, he came out of the home with what looked like a firearm but quickly went back inside. Around 4 p.m., he ignited the house on fire.

Once the fire started, Morales did come out of the residence and was not injured, Sheriff Nienhuis said.

According to Hernando County Fire Rescue, firefighters quickly got the fire under control, and no other homes in the neighborhood were damaged.

No other injuries were reported.

The home was in foreclosure and belonged to Morales' deceased grandmother, according to officials.

Morales was arrested and charged with arson and is being held without bond in the Hernando County Detention Center.

"These should be freak accidents, not a natural disaster"

Dozens of Florida State University students and community allies marched through the streets of Tallahassee on Wednesday, demanding urgent action from state lawmakers on gun reform after a deadly campus shooting that left two dead and at least six others wounded.

Crystal River, FL - A vehicle pursuit that began early this morning in Crystal River ended in a crash in Spring Hill, with the suspect now in custody.

The incident began at a RaceTrac gas station on US-19 in Crystal River, where a Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) Deputy encountered a suspicious person. According to CCSO, the suspect fled in his vehicle during the interaction, narrowly missing several individuals as he left the parking lot. The suspect then drove over the median and sped away.

Due to heavy early morning traffic and the suspect's reckless driving, a CCSO supervisor initially called off the pursuit. However, the suspect was soon spotted by other Deputies driving at excessive speeds within Crystal River. Authorities report that the suspect later attempted to strike a Deputy with his vehicle while the Deputy was conducting an unrelated traffic stop.

Following this alleged aggravated assault on a Deputy, a supervisor authorized another attempt to stop the suspect if he was located again. Deputies subsequently found the suspect traveling at 86 mph in a 45 mph zone with hazard lights activated.

Deputies re-engaged the suspect near the Crystal River city limits on US-19. The suspect once again fled southbound on US-19, continuing to drive dangerously by entering oncoming traffic and swerving at other vehicles.

Given the escalating danger, a CCSO supervisor requested assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), citing their specialized training and ability to use the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to safely end pursuits. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was also alerted as the pursuit entered their jurisdiction.

FHP troopers responded and took over the lead of the pursuit, with two CCSO Deputies providing backup. The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed near the intersection of US-19 and Pepper Street in Spring Hill.

The suspect was taken into custody by FHP without further incident. Sadly, during the crash, the suspect's vehicle struck several other vehicles, resulting in injuries to the occupants. Those injured received medical attention at the scene.
