SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — Looking for some extra cash?

The East Valley may be ripe with opportunities this summer. According to a survey by personal finance site WalletHub, Scottsdale is the best city in the U.S. to look for a summer job this year.

Not only does Scottsdale lead the pack, but several other Valley cities also cracked the list’s top 20!

The WalletHub survey compared the top 180 job markets in the country across 21 metrics.

Scottsdale ranked second in youth job market and ninth in social environment and affordability. WalletHub said Scottsdale has the highest median income for part-time workers.

“It’s a great time to get a summer job, considering that a lot of places are still having labor shortages and may increase their compensation as a result,” analyst Chip Lupo said in WalletHub’s release. “In addition to good pay and good work conditions, the best cities for summer jobs also have attractive features like short commute times and fun activities to engage in outside of work.”

Whether you’re looking to change professions, add some extra income or help your teen land a part-time gig, the Valley should provide plenty of options.

Located at the southwest corner of the Loop 101 freeway and Scottsdale Road, the new restaurant will be a ground-up build on the site of the former Denny’s, which began demolition last week. The Henry North Scottsdale will span 7,000 square feet and include a spacious patio and an all-new interior courtyard designed for effortless indoor-outdoor dining.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – An Arizona homeowner's discovery of a rattlesnake exhibiting an unusual color pattern left some snake experts rather amazed.

The western diamondback rattlesnake was uncovered in the backyard of a Scottsdale home on Friday.

Rattlesnake Solutions, a pest control service, posted the colorful photos on Facebook, stating that a pattern mutation may be the reason for the odd appearance.

"In the many thousands of diamondbacks we’ve seen over the years, this is a first," a business spokesperson wrote in the post.

The snake’s tail stands out compared to the rest of its body as the base of the tail is bright white with black spots. According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), the typical pattern of a western diamondback rattlesnake is outlined in white and black, and the tail has alternating black and white banding.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department says that Arizona has more rattlesnake species than any other state.

The pest service remarks that the area where the snake was found is not a hybridization zone, ruling out any possibilities of breeding with other snakes. According to the NDOW, the western diamondback rattlesnake is a venomous species that uses its venom to subdue its prey.

"We want people to know that there is a higher than average chance that they might encounter a rattlesnake when they are out recreating," said Thomas Jones, amphibians and reptiles program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department.

If bitten, MedlinePlus.gov suggests restricting movement to the affected area. If bitten by a rattlesnake, copperhead, or cottonmouth, keep the affected area at heart level. If bitten by a coral snake, cobra, or exotic snake, keep the affected area below heart level to reduce the flow of venom.

LGE Design Build (LGE), an award-winning integrated design-build firm, announced on May 12 the completion of construction on Thunderbird Commerce Park, a 243,360-square-foot Class-A industrial building in Scottsdale Airpark developed by Creation.

Thunderbird Commerce Park blends a refined industrial aesthetic with operational flexibility. Functional specs include 51 truck doors, 32-foot clear heights, 3,000a power, 130-foot truck court depth, 322 car spaces and four EV dual charging pedestals.

The architecture embraces a modern style, with bold steel-accented entry points and vertically oriented glazing that creates a more elevated, contemporary look. Despite its larger scale compared to neighboring buildings, the design remains contextually sensitive through thoughtful color and material selections, varied rooflines and steel-shaded clerestory windows that add depth and visual interest. The result is a rare blend of raw utility and refined design, executed with care to modernize infrastructure while minimizing disruption to surrounding institutions and residential areas.
