He really does seem to be hanging out with plenty of folks in the 210 lately, and at this point, we're just going to claim him.

A weekend filled with so much to do in the Alamo City (shout out to the moms for Mother's Day by the way), it was almost guaranteed we'd get a celebrity sighting or two during a holiday weekend. Cut Saturday, May 10, when comedic legend Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias posted in his stories across social media that he was San Antonio.

However, this go round, the celebrity had the honor of playing the fan, when he let his followers on Instagram (all 4.7 million plus of them) know about his dinner with a special family connected to the heart of South Texas. Fluffy posted a selfie, sporting a Taco Palenque, while next to another man wearing the same hat. That man? None other than the Taco P founder himself, Juan Francisco "Pancho" Ochoa.

"He is the founder of El Pollo Loco, Taco Palenque and Palenque Grill," Iglesias said in the story. "I had the pleasure of having dinner with him and his family tonight in San Antonio. At 81 years of age, he still continues to create and inspire. He's also a Dodger fan."

And of course, Fluffy had to mention their Dodger fandom, while Pancho was sporting his Los Angeles Dodgers jacket in the photo. "They need to make a movie about him!" Iglesias added.

Ochoa founded El Pollo Loco in 1975 in his hometown of Guasave located on the North Pacific Coast of Mexico, according to their multiple websites. Twelve years later, he founded the fast-casual Mexican restaurant Taco Palenque, which "gained the reputation as one of South Texas’ most preferred places to eat." And eventually, he created Palenque Grill in 2005. San Antonio is home to one Palenque Grill location at La Cantera, and multiple locations of Taco Palenque across the city.

An hour from San Antonio, a shaded 1.3-mile pathway awaits hikers and bikers. Located in San Marcos, the Limestone Link Trail is a new section opened on the ambitious 100-mile trail connecting San Antonio to Austin.

The new trail opened years after the former property owners sold the 102-acre land to investors with the Great Springs Project, the organization behind the plans to build a trail from the Alamo to the Capitol. Hays County later acquired the property and designated it to become an open space preserve.

With the help of the San Marcos Greenbelt Alliance, Limestone Link, which received its name from limestone rock found in the region, is now open and connects to Ringtail Ridge and River Recharge natural areas in San Marcos. For someone who isn't from the area, I did have a hard time finding it. However, I got lost, so you didn't have to. Here's what to expect when hiking the new trail:

How to access Limestone Link

When it was announced, Hays County stated the site was at 1807 Old Ranch Road 12. However, when I arrived, I couldn't find the access point from Old Ranch Road 12. There was a fence that blocked it off (I later returned, and it was open).

I did notice the Ringtail Ridge Natural Area trailhead, but didn't see the Limestone Link Trail connection. I later realized the road at the Ringtail Ridge Natural Area trailhead will lead you to a parking lot and trail points, which will eventually lead you to the Spur Trail and the Limestone Link connection (just know you have to cross Old Ranch Road 12 to get to Limestone Link). You can access Ringtail Ridge on a caliche road between Dakota Ranch Apartments and Crestwood U-Haul.

But I went another way, four minutes away via a vehicle.

River Recharge Natural Area is located at 2060 Lisa Ln, San Marcos, TX 78666. You can park in the neighborhood and walk through the open pathway with a shaded area.

The Trek to Limestone Link

After you park and enter the River Recharge Natural Area, you can take two ways to get to Limestone Link. The scenic route: take the Swallet Loop to the Doline Savanna Trail to the Krast Corner Loop. All of the trails are natural and connect. The path will eventually lead you to Limestone Link, which is by the Krast Corner Loop. It's about 2.1 miles to loop all around and has plenty of shade. I wish I had gone this way.

Instead, I trekked down the service-only road, which I thought was accessible as I saw a biker and his friendly dog cycle through. The biker, who was the only person I saw on the trail, gave me directions to Limestone Link, which helped because there isn't a map online yet showing Limestone Link. Down the service road, there was no shade but plenty of wildflowers and wildlife, like birds, lizards (so many), butterflies, crickets and grasshoppers.

After a mile of walking, I reached the end of the road and found Limestone Link to my right. You can't miss it as it has an eye-catching green archway.

When I found Limestone Link, I felt relieved as I was hiking alone and felt lost. When you enter the trail, you're welcomed with a bench and a map showing connections to River Recharge and Ringtail Ridge.

After hiking in the sun, the shade along the one-mile trail was a breath of fresh air. The trees nearly arched the entire way, while the birds chirped and the insects buzzed. The natural trail was well-kept and filled with beautiful wildflowers and greenery, thanks to the spring season.

On any other day, I would have hiked up to the Spur Trail at Ringtail Ridge. However, I was running out of water and needed to turn around more than halfway through Limestone Link.

Limestone Link is a great space for a long walk with little to no elevation. It's pet-friendly and open from dawn to dusk. It will eventually connect to the Great Springs Project, which has the objective to preserve and protect 50,000 acres over the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, between San Antonio and Austin.

The proposed trail will run from San Antonio to Selma, Universal City, Garden Ridge, Schertz, Cibolo, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Kyle, Buda, and then Austin. The network is expected to be completed by the Texas Bicentennial in 2036. But, for now, you can enjoy Limestone Link and the many trails in San Marcos.

SAN ANTONIO — A new study found San Antonio has the most buildings at "high" or "very high" risk of damage from the effects of land subsidence, the slow and gradual sinking of the Earth's surface over time.

The Alamo City has 10,269 such buildings, according to the findings published Thursday by the journal Nature Cities. That's upwards of 6,000 more than any other U.S. city analyzed by researchers, and amounts to a rate of 1 out of every 45 buildings in San Antonio that face "potential damage... primarily caused by differential land motion."

"The latent nature of this risk means that infrastructure can be silently compromised over time," the study says, "with damage only becoming evidence when it is severe or potentially catastrophic."

The findings were part of an overarching study on the effects of land subsidence in major U.S. cities that pushed back on the assumption that the sinking of land is an issue only coastal areas face. Rather, "subsidence also threatens inland urban areas. causing increased flood risks, structural damage and transportation disruptions."

The study focused on the 28 most populous U.S. cities. In all of them, it said, at least 20% of the area is sinking "mainly due to groundwater extraction."

"Even modest rates of urban subsidence can profoundly impact the structural integrity of buildings, roads, bridges and dams," Nature Cities found, adding that sinking also exacerbates flooding risk.

Texas cities are being particularly affected by land subsidence, the study found, pointing out that 75.6% of Fort Worth is sinking at a rate of between 3 and 5 millimeters a year; 83.9% of Dallas is sinking at the same rate; and 30.1% of Houston is sinking at a rate of between 5 and 10 millimeters a year.

Houston was the only major U.S. metropolis found to have areas – 11.6% of the city – sinking at a rate of more than 10 millimeters a year. The study concluded it's the fastest-sinking city of the 28 analyzed. Of the five cities with at least 10% of surface area sinking at rates faster than 3 millimeters a year, three – Houston, Dallas and Fort Worth – are in Texas.

And, in San Antonio, 1.05 million of the city's roughly 1.5 million residents live in areas where the land is sinking. Generally, the city is sinking at a rate of 1.1 millimeters a year.

The study analyzed land elevation changes across cities as well as groundwater trends. Researchers wrote the findings emphasize "the immediate needs for infrastructural adaptation to promote sustainable urban development in the face escalating environmental pressures to the long-term imperatives of groundwater management."

Nature Cities is a journal that, through research and study, aims to deepen the public's understanding "of the character and dynamics of cities, including their roles, impacts and influences."

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued the warning for ozone pollution, urging everyone in the area to take immediate steps to reduce pollution and protect their health.

According to the TCEQ, atmospheric conditions are expected to favor the creation of ozone pollution in the San Antonio area tomorrow. This pollution could be harmful, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions. Ozone levels will likely peak during the afternoon as temperatures soar and the city experiences a sunny, hot day.

To help combat the pollution, residents are encouraged to share rides, take public transportation, walk, or bike instead of driving.
