A business owner is grateful to be alive after a Jeep slammed into two Pompano Beach businesses last week.

Investigators say the driver of a Jeep went through Ora Smoke Shop off South Cypress Bend Drive and ended up inside Mistress of the Blade barbershop next door on Thursday.

Officials said the crash separated the wall to the barbershop. Several people were hurt, including one person who had to go to the hospital.

There was significant damage to both businesses. By Tuesday, the barbershop was still closed.

Christine Moyer, the owner of Mistress of the Blade, said she was working with another barber and they both had clients in the chair.

“We heard the crashing of the glass, and me and my other barber made eye contact, as we made eye contact here comes the truck, took my client in the chair through that back wall,” Moyer said. “I was cutting his hair, I took three steps over and that is when it came. Had I been standing there, I would have been in that wall.”

Moyer said the impact knocked her down, as well as injured her client and her barber.

“When I stood up, I could feel the glass stuck in me, and I'm trying to get to my client to see if he's okay,” Moyer said. “I am so grateful to God that I am standing here, and the doors will be open to service my customers because I love them and they know it.”

“The hand of God was on us that day,” Moyer said.

Ora Smoke was open for business Tuesday. They boarded up the front windows and replaced the wall that separates both businesses.

Broward Sheriff’s Office officials said not arrests have been made but the driver was cited for driving with a suspended driver's license with knowledge, having a tax expired over six months, and failure to provide proof of insurance at the time of the crash.

Both businesses created GoFundMe fundraisers to help rebuild: Mistress of the Blade and Ora Smoke.

POMPANO BEACH, Fl. – Tulane Beach Volleyball is back in action this weekend for the Florida International University Invite at Pompano Beach.

The Green Wave will kick off the tournament against Florida Gulf Coast University at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4.

At 1:30 p.m. Friday, the Wave will play its first match against No. 17 FIU. This will be Tulane's second C-USA contest this season. The two will rematch at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 5.

To wrap the weekend, Tulane will play FGCU again at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

While Gastesi recommended several Florida cities to GOBankingRates, he said Fort Myers is one of the top areas where Florida homebuyers should purchase property in the next five years.

Not too long ago, Fort Myers had a reputation for being a retirement town. However, the city has shifted to offering more diverse activities, including outdoor recreation, dining and cultural sightseeing, to attract an increasingly younger demographic. According to U.S. News & World Report, the median age of a Fort Myers resident is 45 years old.

Compared to cities like Miami, Gastesi said there’s a lot of land still available in Fort Myers for residential development. And even without state income tax, he said it’s a less expensive alternative than cities in Southwest Florida like Naples or Marco Island.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - A judge has denied bail for a woman accused of being intoxicated while behind the wheel during a fatal hit-and-run in Pompano Beach.

Thirty-seven-year-old Ashley Bowman was charged with driving under the influence manslaughter after she struck Sal and Patricia Marciante earlier this month.

She appeared in a Broward County bond court Tuesday morning to see whether she would be given bond.

Antonio Marciante, Sal’s brother, said she does not deserve to be let out as she awaits trial.

“This is not your typical hit and run where she hit a pole or she hit a car,” Antonio Marciante, Sal’s brother, told the jury. “She ran over a human being. Twice.”

According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Bowman was drunk when she hit the Marciantes in Pompano Beach on the night of March 7.

“That pick up made a left turn onto Atlantic, kind of sped up and struck the two pedestrians and then fled westbound,” said BSO Det. Sean Strzalkowski.

Family members told 7News at the time that the couple was taking a walk during a date night at the intersection of East Atlantic Boulevard and North Pompano Beach Boulevard when they were struck.

The two were quickly rushed to Broward Health North, where Patricia, unfortunately, would not survive.

“When she got transported to the hospital, the doctor said the damage of her being run over by both tires was so intense that there was nothing they could do,” said Antonio.

Deputies said Bowen then fled the scene after the crash, heading north before officials located and arrested her a few hours later.

“Based on your interaction with her, did you believe that Ms. Bowman was impaired by alcohol?” asked prosecutors on Tuesday.

“Yes,” said BSO Deputy Shelby Campbell.

The details were disturbing enough for a judge to determine Bowman would remain behind bars throughout the duration of her trial.

“The defendant will remain in custody on a no-bond hold until this case is resolved,” said the judge.

It’s unclear when Bowman’s trial is set to begin.

Sal remains in the hospital. He is expected to undergo surgery in the next few days.
