Plano, city, Collin and Denton counties, northern Texas, U.S., located about 16 miles (26 km) northeast of Dallas. It is situated in a region of blackland prairie and was first settled (1845–46) by a group called Peters’ Colony (named for William S. Peters, who had led investors in gaining land grants from the Republic of Texas in the early 1840s). The community was granted a post office in 1851; several names were proposed, and ultimately Plano—which a leading citizen understood to be the Spanish word meaning “plain,” an apt description of the terrain—was selected. A Taiwan-based electronics company is moving forward with big expansion plans for North Texas. Delta Electronics Inc. filed plans for a $115 million factory and offices in Plano on Tuesday, April 1.

The plans include a three-story manufacturing facility and a four-story office building that will be 630,000 square feet total, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction is expected to start in June and the company said in previous statements they expect construction to be completed by 2028.

The company is a global supplier of passive and magnetic components used in portable devices, cloud computing equipment, automotive, IoT, and other markets, according to the Delta Electronics website. The product list includes components for inductors, RF inductors, transformers, power modules, EMI filters, solemoids and current sensing resistors.

Plano Economic Development said in December the company already operates a 435,000-square-foot research and development center and manufacturing facility located at 601 Data Drive, Plano, TX 75075. The campus expansion will be built adjacent to the already existing facilities.

Delta Electronics also has plans for a third phase of expansion for another 477,000-square-foot facility that will be completed by 2031.

"In total, the company’s manufacturing facilities in Plano are expected to span close to 1.5 million square feet and employ over 1,500 employees by 2031," Plano EDC said in the statement.

"From 2010 to 2023, Delta’s high-efficiency products and solutions helped our customers worldwide save over 45.5 billion kWh of electricity, enough to power the state of Texas for nearly one month."

Haggard Park will once again host Texas Forever Fest, an annual event that aims to celebrate all things Texas.

The city of Plano announced the music lineup and street closures for the festival March 22.

Additionally, to accommodate the festival, several streets will close for the event. All H Avenue lanes from 15th Street to 16th Street will be closed. All 16th Street lanes from H Avenue to I Avenue will be closed. The far-right westbound lane on 15th Street will also be closed.

The details

Haggard Park is located at 901 E. 15th St. and the event will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. March 22. Admission to the event is free.

Additionally, the event will feature the Spirits of Texas Tasting, a whiskey tasting event for attendees 21 and over and the only ticketed portion of the festival. More than 10 distilleries from across the state will be at the tasting.

Plano Special Events Supervisor Natalie Walker said the event is expected to bring between 15,000 and 20,000 attendees.

What to expect

Along with music, the event will feature a family zone sponsored by H-E-B, a vendor market, photo opportunities, mechanical bull, obstacle course, bounce houses and a rolling roper, a machine that simulates calf roping.

Other activities include a wild west magician, beer from Texas brewers and a balloon trailer from Children’s Health.

The backstory

The first Texas Forever Fest was held in 2022. The festival is loosely related to Texas Independence Days, Walker said, adding that it is a celebration of the state’s past while also looking toward the future.
