JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — People gathered in Jacksonville to stand in solidarity with protestors in Los Angeles calling for an end to immigration raids.
It comes as President Donald Trump sends the military to California to crack down on those protests. Dozens of people have been arrested, with law enforcement claiming the protests have turned violent.
On the other side of the country, protestors made their voices heard Monday night outside the Duval County Courthouse.
“We are calling for due process,” said Katie Chorbak, with 50501 Veterans. “That’s a guaranteed freedom in the Constitution, and that is not happening. It’s being usurped. With ICE raids, a lot of people are being deported to a foreign country without due process. So we need to stop the ICE raids.”

Jacksonville community groups also shouted in support of union leader David Huerta. Federal agents arrested Huerta in California last week for interfering with immigration enforcement. He was released from federal custody Monday on a $50,000 bond after a hearing in federal court in Los Angeles.
As tensions remain high in Los Angeles, Jamison Collin-Morita with the Jacksonville Immigrant Rights Alliance said she’s seen more local families living in fear of similar raids.
“I think that it’s really important that when people are scared like this and they feel like they can’t come out to these protests, they feel like they can’t be visible - so we have to be visible for them,” said Collin-Morita.
She added that they will continue to stand with Los Angeles and communities across the country.
“We have a large movement behind us, and we will not rest until these raids are put to an end,” said Collin-Morita.
Many protestors said they will be back out on Tuesday protesting a proposed ordinance in city council. That ordinance would block any city money from going to undocumented migrants

Jacksonville, FL (June 13, 2025) – An overnight crash on the northbound side of Interstate 295 near mile marker 17 left several people injured and prompted an early morning response from local authorities. The incident was first reported around 2:32 a.m., and emergency crews arrived at the scene by 3:05 a.m. to assist the injured and evaluate the situation.
Those involved in the crash sustained a variety of injuries, though officials have not released specific details regarding the victims’ identities or the number of vehicles impacted. Medical personnel responded to provide immediate care and ensure that injured individuals received appropriate treatment. Additional resources were made available to support transport and medical assessment as needed.
Despite the injuries, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the roadway was cleared shortly after responders concluded their on-site efforts. All lanes remained open, allowing early morning traffic on I-295 to continue with minimal disruption.
At this time, investigators are working to determine what caused the crash. Factors such as driver fatigue, distraction, or roadway conditions during early morning hours may have contributed. Witnesses or drivers with relevant information or dashcam footage are encouraged to contact authorities to aid in the ongoing investigation.
We extend our hopes for a full and swift recovery to those injured in this crash.
Highway Accidents in Florida
Florida highways—especially major routes like I-295—are vital for both local and long-distance travel but also carry a heightened risk of serious accidents. Early morning crashes, such as the one that occurred near MM17, often involve unique hazards. Reduced visibility, decreased alertness, and lower traffic volume can result in higher speeds and delayed reaction times, increasing the severity of collisions.
Unlike surface street incidents, highway crashes tend to involve faster-moving vehicles and greater force on impact. In this case, while the road was cleared quickly and traffic remained open, those involved were still left to deal with the physical and emotional consequences of a high-speed collision. Immediate medical care plays a crucial role in these outcomes, as does access to ongoing recovery resources.
I-295 is a critical beltway around Jacksonville, linking key neighborhoods and commuter routes. Any disruption—particularly involving injuries—has implications not just for traffic, but for community safety. Authorities must investigate thoroughly to identify any contributing patterns or preventable causes that could inform future safety measures.
Victims of highway accidents often face a difficult road ahead, dealing with physical trauma, insurance claims, and mounting bills. Knowing where to turn after such an event can make all the difference.
If you or someone close to you was injured in a crash like the one on I-295, Local Accident Reports can help connect you with the guidance and care you need. From legal resources to medical referrals, our team is ready to support your recovery journey. Don’t face it alone—reach out today to take the next step toward resolution and relief.

Jacksonville, FL (June 13, 2025) – Early Friday morning, emergency crews in Jacksonville responded to a crash involving injuries on the westbound side of Butler Blvd near the ramp connecting to SR-115 northbound. Medics and fire personnel from Jacksonville Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene, where they worked to provide care for individuals injured in the collision. Although the specific nature of the injuries has not yet been disclosed, responders remained on-site to stabilize those affected and assist with any necessary transport to local hospitals.
Despite the crash and reported injuries, officials confirmed that the roadway remained open and no traffic lanes were blocked. This helped minimize disruption along one of Jacksonville’s key commuter corridors, especially important for early-morning travel.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash, and no information has been made public regarding the number of vehicles involved or the identities of the individuals hurt. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to monitor the case and has encouraged anyone with information or relevant footage to contact authorities.
We send our best wishes to those injured in this crash and hope for their swift and complete recovery.
Injury Collisions in Florida
The early morning crash on Butler Blvd westbound near the SR-115 ramp highlights the continuous safety challenges faced on Florida’s busy roadways. Interchange areas—especially involving ramps and merging traffic—are common sites for collisions due to complex traffic patterns and limited reaction times.
Even though this incident did not result in a roadblock, the fact that injuries occurred serves as a reminder of how impactful any crash can be, regardless of time or traffic conditions. Accidents during early hours, like this 1:33 a.m. crash, often involve contributing factors such as driver fatigue, low visibility, or impaired alertness, all of which can increase risk.
Butler Blvd is a heavily traveled route in Jacksonville that connects drivers across business districts, residential areas, and major highways. Accidents in this area can disrupt not only traffic flow but also the safety and peace of mind of local residents. Thankfully, quick action by Jacksonville first responders helped ensure medical care was promptly delivered and the scene was safely managed.
For victims of vehicle crashes, the consequences often extend well beyond the scene—ranging from medical complications and therapy needs to insurance challenges and emotional distress. Understanding your rights and options after an injury crash is essential to ensuring a full recovery—physically, financially, and legally.

Delta Flight 1576 from Atlanta was diverted to Cecil Airport in Jacksonville after the crew declared an emergency onboard.
Fortunately, the plane landed safely, and everyone was evacuated off the plane and onto the tarmac.
Channel 2’s Wendy Corona spoke with a passenger who was on that plane.
Peter Stewart from Alpharetta said that about halfway through the flight, he felt the cabin get noticeably warmer – and then the air masks dropped.
Stewart said he texted his wife and kids, “I love you.” Then the Wi-Fi went out.
“Cabins depressurizing, you’re descending quickly. You’re doing an emergency landing. I’ve been flying for 40 years, like almost 3 million miles, and this is the most scared I’ve ever been on an airplane,” Stewart said.
TRENDING STORIES:
He told Corona that he applauded the crew and pilots for their response to this emergency.
The airline said there was no indication that there was a fire on board.
Delta said 200 passengers, two pilots and four flight attendants were on the plane.
“We apologize to our customers for the experience. Safety comes before everything else at Delta, and our teams will now focus on taking care of our customers and getting them to their destinations,” Delta said in a statement.
The FAA also sent Channel 2 Action News a statement, saying:
“Delta Air Lines Flight 1576 landed safely at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville, Florida, around 2 p.m. local time Monday, June 9, after the crew reported a pressurization issue. The Boeing 757-200 was flying from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Orlando International Airport. The FAA will investigate. Contact the airline for information.”

Delta Flight 1576, with 206 people on board made an emergency landing at a small airport in Jacksonville after reports of smoke in the cabin.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Delta flight traveling from Atlanta to Orlando made an emergency landing at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville Monday afternoon after reports of smoke in the cabin and oxygen masks dropped from the ceiling mid-flight.
The Boeing 757 was carrying 200 passengers and six crew members. Atlanta passenger Peter Stewart was seated in the emergency exit row on Flight 1576. He was headed to Orlando for a work trip.
“We took off. Everything was normal. It started getting a little warmer and hot in the cabin. The flight, we could tell, slowed down some and then all of a sudden, no warning, just the oxygen masks came down. And shortly after, they said the cabin was depressurizing and told us to put on our masks,” Stewart said.
He says he has logged nearly three million miles in the air over 40 years and this flight was unlike anything he’s ever experienced.
“This was the scariest time I've ever been in an airplane,” he said.
As the aircraft rapidly descended, Stewart was able to send one message to his family.
“I just said 'I love you.' In the moment, that's the only thing that popped into my head. And then I went to write something more and the Wi-Fi cut off. And then the plane decelerated even more,” he said. “I know I was saying prayers at the time.”
In the cabin, he says passengers sat in silence.
“It was deathly quiet. In that moment where we’re descending quickly, we’re banking, like you couldn't hear anything,” he said. “You could see people holding each other's hands.”
While some passengers reported smelling smoke, Stewart said he didn’t see any. Delta says there are no indications of fire on the plane.
As the plane made it’s quick descent to Cecil Airport, Stewart credits the pilots for their skillful handling of the emergency.
“Delta has a lot of ex-military pilots. That would be my guess on who was flying. Because the way that plane banked like that, so tightly while descending altitude so quickly, I think that was a very competent crew that performed that maneuver and got us into that small airport so quickly,” Stewart said.
Once safely on the ground, emotions overflowed.
“Everybody like erupted in applause for the pilots,” he said.
Delta sent a statement to First Coast News apologizing to customers: “Safety comes before everything else at Delta and our teams will now focus on taking care of our customers and getting them to their destinations."
The airline arranged ground transportation to get passengers including Stewart to Orlando.
“Delta Air Lines Flight 1576 landed safely at Cecil Airport in Jacksonville, Florida, around 2 p.m. local time Monday, June 9, after the crew reported a pressurization issue. The Boeing 757-200 was flying from Hartfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Orlando International Airport. The FAA will investigate. Contact the airline for information,” an FAA statement said.
Asked whether he plans to fly back home to Atlanta, Stewart says he may take a break from flying this week.
“Honestly, I haven't made up my mind yet. Like part of me wants to just rent a car. And drive back.”
