CBL Properties announced Friday that the Lego Store and the ear-piercing chain Rowan will open retail locations later this year in Greensboro’s Friendly Center.

Also opening this year are four new restaurants: Cooper’s Hawk, First Watch, North Italia and French artisan bakery Tous les Jours.

“Friendly Center is one of CBL’s top performing properties and is the destination of choice for brands looking to expand into the Greensboro market,” said Stephen Lebovitz, CBL’s chief executive

The Lego store will be the second in North Carolina when counting the location in Concord Mills.

Cooper’s Hawk will offer a Napa, California-style tasting room, main bar, dining room, private dining rooms and a large patio in its 10,000 square-foot location on the site of the former NY & Co. store.

The breakfast and brunch First Watch chain will occupy a 4,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Qdoba.

North Italia will bring its homemade pasta and handmade pizzas to a 6,000 square-foot space located on the site of the former U.S. Post Office.

Tous les Jour will be in The Shops at Friendly Center.

Rowan will be located at 3326 W. Friendly Ave. Suite 119. It accepts appointments and walk-in clients.

It will be Rowan’s second Triad store counting a location at Thruway Shopping Center in Winston-Salem, as well as the seventh in North Carolina counting two Charlotte locations and one each in Huntersville, Raleigh and Wilmington.

The Rowan chain offers ear piercings provided by licensed nurses. The typical store features between six and eight licensed nurses and a studio manager.

According to the Rowan website, a device piercing is $35 for one piercing and $50 for two, plus the cost of piercing studs. Those piercings are available for all ages.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro and UNC-Greensboro will become the home of a Brazilian soccer team over the summer as part of the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, according to the university.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will run from June 14 to July 13 in 11 cities across the United States, including Charlotte. The tournament will consist of 32 of the top teams from each of the six international confederations — AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA.

Greensboro will host SE Palmeiras, one of the most popular club teams in Brazil. The city will act as a place for the team to "spend most of their time during the Group Stage of the Tournament, along with their delegations, media and fans."

“We have long since owned our Tournament Town title, but this honor puts us at a completely different level,” Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan said in a statement. “Greensboro is now officially part of the world’s most popular sport. This is not just an economic win — it elevates our status as a premier host for sporting events at levels we’ve never experienced.”

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is the official lead-up to the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. FIFA previously announced that Greensboro is also being considered a base camp for that tournament.

In addition to training in Greensboro, SE Palmerias also plans to launch a "comprehensive community program for the local neighborhood." Starting on June 6, Greensboro will host free community-focused activities at Smith Soccer Complex "aimed at introducing the club and its history to local people."

SE Palmeiras will train at UNCG this summer during international tournament

GREENSBORO N.C. (April 24, 2025) - The Fédération Internationale de Football Association – better known as FIFA, the international governing body for the game of soccer – has named Greensboro a Base Camp City for the inaugural 2025 FIFA Club World Cup tournament.

"We have long since owned our Tournament Town title, but this honor puts us at a completely different level," said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan. "Greensboro is now officially part of the world's most popular sport. This is not just an economic win – it elevates our status as a premier host for sporting events at levels we've never experienced."

Greensboro will play host to the SE Palmeiras of São Paulo, Brazil, one of the most popular teams in South America, with an estimated 21 million fans and 18 top-tier national titles to its name, making it Brazil's most successful FC. The team will train at UNCG facilities throughout the spring and summer, and will play its Group Stage matches at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ and at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, FL.

The honor comes after a united effort by the City of Greensboro, the Greensboro Sports Foundation and the UNC Greensboro Athletics Department. Greensboro is the only North Carolina city to be named as a training base camp; two of the Group Stage matches and two from the Round of 16 matches will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

In addition to training in Greensboro, Palmeiras is launching a comprehensive community program for the local neighborhood. Beginning on June 6, the city will host a series of free, community-focused activities at the Smith Soccer Complex, aimed at introducing the club and its history to local people. The program will run through mid-June and will include interactive games and a friendly soccer tournament, leading up to a youth soccer camp at Proehlific Park from June 23 to 27.

RALEIGH – Today, Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced that Jasmine Hoyle of Winston-Salem pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud and one count of money laundering for defrauding the NC Medicaid program of more than $6 million in taxpayer money.

“This business owner stole millions from our state’s Medicaid program for services she never completed and used the money for personal gain,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. “When people break the law and misuse government funds, NCDOJ and our state and federal partners bring them to justice.”

Hoyle owned and operated two businesses in Winston-Salem called Harvest & Consulting Services, LLC and The Ultimate Sacrifice. Both received Medicaid reimbursements for services that were not performed, including significant quantities of urine drug tests. Between August 2020 and July 2022, Harvest Focused submitted 97 claims to Medicaid for urine drug tests for a Medicaid beneficiary who had no connection to either of Hoyle’s businesses. Hoyle used the stolen funds to make personal purchases, including a Dodge Challenger.

Sentencing is scheduled to take place on July 31 at 9:30 a.m. in Greensboro before United States District Judge William L. Osteen, Jr. At sentencing, Hoyle faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, a period of supervised release of up to three years, and monetary penalties. ​

The Internal Revenue Service–Criminal Investigation Division, North Carolina Attorney General’s Office-Medicaid Investigations Division, Department of Health and Human Services–Office of Inspector General, and the United States Postal Inspection Service ​investigated this case and Assistant United States Attorney ​Ashley Waid​ and Special Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Spillman prosecuted the case.
