FORT COLLINS – Colorado State University (CSU) and PBR (Professional Bull Riders) will join forces this summer to bring Western sports fans the 'Best of the West' in bull riding alongside full live concerts from GRAMMY award-winning musician Tim McGraw and multi-platinum country artist Jon Pardi Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22 at Canvas Stadium.

In addition to the multi-platinum artists, the showdown at Canvas Stadium will showcase PBR Last Cowboy Standing – one the most exhilarating and challenging formats in sports. Thirty-five of the world's best bull riders will compete across the grueling two-night, ride-to-survive format set to pay the winner $100,000 of the $200,000 total purse.

"Partnering with CSU to bring Last Cowboy Standing and two phenomenal concerts to Fort Collins is paving the way for 'Best of the West' to become a great summer tradition in Western lifestyle and sports," said Sean Gleason, PBR CEO and Commissioner. "Treating fans to a live performance by blockbuster stars Tim McGraw and Jon Pardi will turn an already extraordinary two days of bull riding into unforgettable four-hour parties."

The midweek festival of Western sports and entertainment gets underway on Monday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. MT featuring Round 1 of action-packed competition followed by a live performance by Tim McGraw. The dramatic conclusion of the inaugural PBR Last Cowboy Standing at CSU will kick off at 7:30 p.m. MT on Tuesday, July 22 followed by a celebratory concert from Pardi.

"Colorado State University is thrilled to partner with PBR to bring these exciting events to Canvas Stadium," said Colorado State University President Amy Parsons. "We'll be bringing together top-tier competition and world-class music performances by country music stars Tim McGraw and Jon Pardi, an incredible draw for the entire region to CSU over the summer. It's also an opportunity for us to showcase our own students who are carrying on CSU's long tradition as home to the nation's longest continuously running college rodeo."

On the opening night, at the home of the CSU Rams, all 35 riders will attempt one bull each. The Top 20 will advance to Round 2 on July 22. Following Round 2, the evening will continue with the Top 8 advancing to Round 3, and the Top 4 to Round 4. The fifth and final round will feature each contender with a score from Round 4, with a minimum of two competitors. The slate will be wiped clean in the final round with the title of PBR Last Cowboy Standing determined by the rider with the top score.

"We could not be more excited to partner and host PBR on campus. It is going to be an amazing two days in Canvas Stadium with incredible competition combined with concerts from country music stars Tim McGraw and Jon Pardi," said Director of Athletics John Weber. If Fort Collins had an official beverage, it would undoubtedly be craft beer. The city is a mecca for beer lovers, with dozens of breweries ranging from small-batch taprooms to nationally recognized names.

“I could say a lot of different things about what makes Fort Collins unique but, in my opinion, one of my absolute favorite things about living here is that Fort Collins is renowned for its craft beer scene, making brewery hopping a must,” says Matt Shreffler of Rocky Mountain Student Media Corp.

“Little known fact: 70% of all of Colorado’s craft beer comes from Fort Collins, including industry giants like New Belgium and Odell. Exploring all of the breweries Fort Collins has to offer allows people to enjoy some amazing beer and experience the truly special atmospheres and food trucks that we as locals have come to love. This deep-rooted beer culture is a defining characteristic of Fort Collins.”

With local favorites like Funkwerks and Horse & Dragon adding to the mix, Fort Collins’ beer scene is as diverse as it is delicious.

2. The beauty of the outdoors

One of the first things many people think of when asked what Fort Collins is known for, they think of nature. Nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Fort Collins is a paradise for outdoorsy types. Whether you prefer hiking, biking, or simply soaking in the scenery, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy nature here.

Shay Riccio of Furbaby Photography highlights some of her favorite spots:

“Living in Fort Collins is truly a joy. There’s always something to do, whether it’s exploring the charming shops in Old Town, relaxing by the fountain in the square with my husband and our dog, or indulging in our favorite local bites—like pizza from The Corner Slice or the smoked ribs at MoJeaux Bar & Grill.

“We love the city’s dog-friendly atmosphere, especially the Tour de Corgi parade in October. When we’re looking to unwind, nothing beats soaking in the beauty of Horsetooth Reservoir or enjoying the sunshine at Spring Canyon Park. With its mix of outdoor adventure, great food, and a welcoming community, Fort Collins is a truly special place to call home.”

3. A haven for gardeners

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape in the city, the Colorado State University Flower Trial Gardens are a hidden gem. This stunning collection of flowers and plants is a tranquil setting to explore, relax, and even pick up some gardening inspiration.

“One of the best things to do in Fort Collins is free!” says Cei Lambert of Meadowlark Tattoo Company. “If you’re in town from April – November, go check out the Colorado State University Flower Trial Gardens. The gardens are located across from the University Center for the Arts and include a perennial garden. The gardens are rarely crowded and are open to the public as long as the growing season lasts. There are benches, shade trees, picnic spots, and arbors to explore along with detailed plaques for every plant so you can go home and plant your favorites!”

Lambert has a favorite way to enjoy the gardens: “I like to order takeout from Beijing Noodle on Shields and Prospect, then take my tasty Chinese food (don’t forget to add a tea egg!) to the gardens and have a picnic.”

4. A city steeped in history

Fort Collins has a rich history dating back to its days as a military outpost in the 1800s. History buffs can explore The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery, which combines interactive exhibits on science, music, and local history, offering a deep dive into the area’s fascinating past.

For a taste of local heritage, take a ghost tour through Old Town, where storytellers bring to life the legends of the city’s haunted past. The Avery House, a beautifully restored Victorian-era home, offers another glimpse into Fort Collins’ early days with guided tours showcasing antique furnishings and historical artifacts.

5. A thriving arts scene

Fort Collins has long been a hotspot for artists and musicians, and the city’s creative energy is evident in its many galleries, public art installations, and live music venues. The Lincoln Center is a hub, hosting everything from Broadway-style performances to ballet and comedy shows. Meanwhile, smaller venues like The Armory and The Aggie Theatre keep the local music scene thriving, featuring both regional talent and national acts.

The city also embraces art in public spaces, with murals decorating alleyways and sculptures dotting downtown. The Fort Collins Art Walk, held on the first Friday of each month, lets visitors explore galleries and meet local artists while enjoying the lively atmosphere of Old Town.

6. The charm of Old Town

If Fort Collins looks familiar, it might be because Old Town served as the inspiration for Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. This historic downtown district is full of unique shops, local restaurants, and lively entertainment. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee at Bean Cycle, catching live music at The Aggie Theatre, or exploring the weekend farmers’ market, Old Town is the heart of the city’s strong culture.

Due to increased patient demand, UCHealth is expanding primary care services in northern Colorado in the coming months with the addition of 32 providers and four new primary care clinic locations.

Kevin Unger, CEO of UCHealth’s Northern Colorado Region, said many of UCHealth’s new providers have been caring for patients in the area for several years. “They are committed to improving patients’ lives, and we are thrilled they are choosing to stay in northern Colorado to continue serving patients as part of UCHealth.”

Primary care providers assist patients with comprehensive health care needs – for regular, preventive care and as a first point of contact for any medical problem or mental health concern that may arise.

“Primary care is a vital aspect of living a healthy life,” said Donna Lankford, UCHealth Medical Group’s regional vice president of operations. “These are greatly valued, long-term relationships that lead to better health outcomes.”

As a part of this expansion, UCHealth is adding four new clinics and expanding two existing clinics. Most of the new providers will be caring for patients at the new and expanded clinics.

Here is a look at the new providers in northern Colorado and where and when they’ll be seeing patients:

UCHealth Primary Care – Battlecreek Drive, 2021 Battlecreek Drive, Suite B1, Fort Collins. New clinic opening in May.

UCHealth Primary Care – Lake Street, 151 W. Lake St., Suite 1500, Fort Collins. New clinic opening in late April inside the CSU Health and Medical Center.

UCHealth Primary Care – Rangeview, 2695 Rocky Mountain Ave., Suite 200, Loveland. New clinic now open.

UCHealth Primary Care – Shields Street, 2001 S. Shields St., Building E, Suite 101, Fort Collins. New clinic opening later this year.

UCHealth Primary Care – Mason Street, 4601 S. Mason St., Fort Collins. Clinic expansion opening in late April.

UCHealth Primary Care – Prospect, 1100 and 1106 E. Prospect Road, Fort Collins. Clinic expansion opening in May.

Existing UCHealth clinic locations:

For an appointment or more information about these new primary care providers or UCHealth clinics, patients should call 970.495.7410.

Patients who have health care needs before their provider’s start date can call this number as well to speak with nurse navigators who can provide options in the interim.

Pour one out for the competition — one beer in Fort Collins stands alone.

In the first-ever 64-beer bracket, Maxline Brewing walked away as champion after its Irish Red claimed the Coloradoan's voter-chosen title of best Fort Collins beer. The beer is one of the brewery's flagship offerings, with a slightly higher alcohol by volume content and a cherry note that separates it from other Irish red ales, says head brewer Kyle Smoot.

But the victory won't change much at Maxline.

"We're still the same old people," co-owner Cathy Morgan said. "We're just happy."

Maxline opened in Midtown Fort Collins in 2016 and entered three beers in the Coloradoan's beer bracket, co-owner Kevin Gearhardt said. Two got bounced early, but Maxline's Irish Red went the distance, beating stalwarts like New Belgium Brewing Co.'s Trippel and Odell Brewing Co.'s 90 Shilling along the way.

In the championship round, it ran away from Prost's Dunkel in a vote that was never close. It took nearly 74% of the votes in that round.

As part of this project, the Coloradoan partnered with Bullfrog Wine and Spirits, Campus West Liquor Depot, Mulberry Max and Wilbur's Total Beverage to distribute thousands of beer bracket coasters — linking to this coverage — across nearly 20 Fort Collins breweries.

Maxline made heavy usage of the coasters as well as other printed signs encouraging votes throughout the tournament — a much-encouraged action within this contest — and the work paid off. The owners and staff credit their many regulars with helping them win.

"They were very excited for us; our customers are like family," Morgan said.

The path to victory for Maxline Brewing's Irish Red

Here's a look at the No. 7 seed's path to victory:
