“The world has become way too expensive and we’ve seen that firsthand,” the Dive Bar says on its website. “That’s why we created Dive Bar — to bring North Carolina back to the days of simple fun, affordability and no egos. From perfectly dank lighting, darts, jet pong, Pac-Man arcade games and pinball — we’re here to help you have fun without the four-digit bar tab.”

Workers gutted the building, which has had many renovations over the years. Underneath, they found beautiful brick work, which will be highlighted in the renovations.

The building, which last was a trophy shop, is beside Concord’s Bicentennial Parking Lot and features a mural on the outside wall.

Dive Bar started in the basement of a 150-year-old building in Mooresville, so the historic nature of the Concord location fits with the company’s background.

Other locations are in Hickory, Cornelius, High Point and Winston-Salem. Each is a little different, and the company says it tailors each to the community that it serves.

Dive Bar lists a strict dress code with no sweat suits, no hoodies that could cover your face, no do-rags, no men’s tank tops, no sunglasses, no overly baggy clothing and more.

Hours vary some from location to location, but generally they are:

North Carolina State Superintendent Mo Green made a visit to Concord to host a public listening and learning session with parents and teachers.

CONCORD, N.C. — North Carolina State Superintendent Mo Green visited Concord to host a public listening and learning session Wednesday night. The superintendent is holding eight listening and learning sessions in each of the state’s regions.

During that meeting at Harold Winkler Middle School, parents and teachers were asked to answer four questions. One of those questions asked, "What are the challenges and potential solutions for North Carolina Public Schools?"

In a packed auditorium with hundreds of people, parents and teachers told North Carolina superintendent Mo Green that administrators need to address bullying.

Frank Brown is one of the parents who spoke about the impact bullying had on his children’s mental health.

“I had a son who's actually 36 now that tried to kill himself when he was a senior in high school, and thankfully that didn’t happen, and now, I have a daughter that struggles with anxiety issues,” Brown said.

Green says it’s an issue that must be addressed from the top level down to the classroom. He said it could even require a response from law enforcement.

“I do think there are four things we need to focus on, one that was lifted up this evening, which is regard to having more mental health professionals working with our students,” Green said.

Green said that means getting more counselors, social workers, and school psychologists working with students who are victims of bullying, as well as the students responsible for doing the bullying. Brown said those resources would have helped his children cope with anxiety.

“I’ve seen it with every one of my kids in a different way and they have been bullied and then they begin to think am I supposed to take my life, what am I to do, just to have a resource to help people encourage them and a hotline as well for them to discuss things that they may not feel comfortable with me,” Brown said.

Green said he also wants to look at character development.

We also asked him what type of guidance he is giving districts after President Trump's executive order to dismantle the Department of Education.

Green encourages districts to keep their focus on the dollars that are still coming in and manage the anxiety.
