Earlier this year, Chandler city officials told residents that a part of their property taxes has been going down the drain — just not theirs.

The Arizona Supreme Court has announced that it will hear arguments in the accompanying lawsuit that says the Roosevelt Water Conservation District is refusing to sell them available water.

Mayor Kevin Hartke said that despite continued talks with board members, there hasn’t been any progress in getting taxpayers any of the water they’re still paying for.

“We're running our legislative case,” said Hartke. “We have a Supreme Court case. And we continue to try to communicate with board members. We communicate with our residents and ask them to communicate with RWCD. Again, we're just asking for something that we can relatively count on.”

With the region’s water supply already stretched thin, Hartke explained, Chandler is asking for a chance at buying a percentage of whatever is available — instead of buying from a set amount once obligations to tribes and other entities.

“They continue to ask us to sign a contract with no guarantee of outcomes,” said Hartke. “So it's a one-sided contract.”

Even as the city’s lawsuit advances to the state Supreme Court: “All RWCD needs to do is come to the table, as they have promised, with a reasonable offer. And we would love to have this behind us. But they have not been willing to do that. And they've not been willing to give us a reason why.”

Hartke said oral arguments are anticipated to start as early as June. The water district didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Punk in the Park returns to Arizona on Saturday, April 12, 2025, bringing a lineup packed with legendary punk acts for moshing and craft beer for tasting to Wild Horse Pass Festival Grounds on the Gila River Indian Community near Chandler.

Punk in the Park will feature performances on two stages with no overlapping set times.

The all-ages festival is produced by Brew Ha Ha Productions, a company known for its pairing of punk rock and beer at events across the U.S., including the 2023-2024 Punk in Drublic presents NOFX Final Tour.

Craft beer sampling is available for those 21 and over, showcasing local, regional and national beer, hard seltzer and cider from noon to 3 p.m.

The free Easter celebration features live entertainment, 15,000 pre-filled eggs for a store-to-store egg hunt [while supplies last], balloon twisting, face painting, a bunny photo zone, and an egg decorating/coloring station.

The egg hunt is free, but there will be several ticketed activities at the event as well, such as the Unlimited Access Wristband that gives you access to all the bounce houses and obstacle courses, and the petting zoo; a petting zoo Ticket is available for purchase.

The East Valley event will feature free inflatable attractions and a 24 Karrot Trail where the kiddos can collect eggs and toys along the way. “Minimal charges for some interactive children's activities and photos with the Easter Bunny,” according to the city’s website.

The free event will feature an egg hunt, easter bunny photos, an arts & crafts station, and some other on-site games.

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Chandler celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month every April with must-see performances by talented musicians.

The party kicks off with the Chandler Jazz Festival, April 3-6, featuring local and national artists playing a variety of music from traditional to fusion to smooth jazz. Bands will play throughout Downtown Chandler during all four days of the festival. The locations for sidewalk band performances are all within walking distance and are adjacent to downtown shops and restaurants.

On Saturday, April 5, live music from renown jazz musicians will continue into the evening hours at the Main Stage, located at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park: Stage Plaza, 178 E. Commonwealth Ave.

This year’s Main Stage lineup is a special opportunity for Chandler audiences to hear nationally recognized jazz musicians. Corcoran Holt began playing Djembe and other West African percussion at age four and upright bass at age 10. He also attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. Typhanie Monique is a native of Chicago and a recent resident of Arizona. She is a bandleader, songwriter, vocalist and educator who has had an influence on the jazz scene. A native of Washington Heights, Lakecia Benjamin was voted the 2020 Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star Alto Saxophonist and Up and Coming Artist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. Benjamin is a dynamic saxophonist who fuses jazz, hip hop and soul and has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and The Roots.

On Saturday night at the Main Stage, food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Guests can bring their own blankets and lawn chairs on Saturday, as well as sealed bottled water and snacks. Alcohol is prohibited.
