Sacco’s Bowl Haven is where a historic, family-owned bowling alley meets Vermont’s beloved pizza chain. Though its ownership has changed, the venue has kept most of its interiors unchanged. It has also maintained its character as a family-friendly spot where groups can hang out and play candlepin while sipping a cold one from its selection of 20 draft beers and cider.

True to its name, Mothership is a haven for kids and parents. The kids menu features chicken tenders, a mini burger, buttered pasta, and grilled cheese plus games and coloring to keep little diners engaged. The spot also has free parking and a full cocktail menu for parents. The events schedule has both kid-centric activities as well as trivia nights and parties for adults.

This Union Square restaurant has a spacious interior that’s comfortable to navigate for families. A kids-only menu includes grilled cheese, pasta with butter and Parmesan, and chicken fingers. For adults, there’s a good selection of cocktails, wine, and beer.

Kids can dig into a mini French feast at Ma Maison, where the menu for les petits includes kid-sized burgers, small cuts of steak, fish sticks with steamed broccoli, and more. The cherry on top? The restaurant donates all of the revenue from the kids menu to the nonprofit Chefs Feed Kids, which supports underprivileged children in the Philippines.

In seasonal months, dine outside with kids at Granary Tavern near the Greenway, steps from the New England Aquarium. Little ones can eat burgers, chicken tenders, and salads for $9 each, including a drink and a Hoodsie Cup for dessert.

This longtime Allston steakhouse has high chairs and booster seats, and its designated kids menu features items like grilled cheese, pasta, a chicken quesadilla, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. Plus, there’s free parking on-site.

Aside from the breakfast menu, which is inherently kid-friendly, the kids dinner menu at the Paramount includes chicken tenders with honey mustard dipping sauce and grilled cheese on sourdough. Each kids meal includes a side — including fruit salad or broccoli — and a drink. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but there are high chairs and booster seats available for kids.

This Fort Point brewpub has a dedicated menu for kiddos that includes cheeseburger sliders, chicken tenders, and cavatelli pasta with either butter and Parmesan or marinara and Parmesan.

Picco serves one simple but tasty menu for adults and kids, consisting of assorted pizzas, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, calzones, and appetizers. What better way to satisfy kids than plates full of carbs? End with Picco’s acclaimed ice cream, of course.

Meyers + Chang is a South End hot spot known for its dim sum brunch and designated date night dinners, but it’s also a great place for family-friendly dining. The kids menu includes steamed edamame, bao stuffed with crispy tofu, dumplings, plain udon noodles, and more.

This restaurant, from the same folks behind JP Seafood, offers all-day breakfast, with basic options like pancakes and eggs, as well as cinnamon brioche French toast, corned beef hash, and breakfast burritos. Evergreen offers both sit-down and takeout service.

There’s no kids-menu offshoot at Little Cocoa Bean Co.; instead, the whole menu is designed with kids in mind. Parents can also check out the cafe’s ongoing events schedule, which includes workshops on sleep tips, nutrition and food prep, and breastfeeding support. Note: There’s no longer daily food service at the JP location while the team is hard at work on a cafe expansion at the Boston Children's Museum, but kids can still drop in to regularly scheduled events at the JP cafe.

Bond over breakfast at the Dot Cafe, a casual Vietnamese American daytime spot located on bustling Dorchester Avenue. Buttered bagels, brioche French toast, and pancakes are all on offer here, and nothing on the menu exceeds $10 apiece. Heading over later in the day? Split a veggie banh mi or a tasty udon noodle soup.

What is the best internet provider in Cambridge?

Our CNET experts recommend Xfinity as the best internet service provider for most in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For good reason, too: Xfinity's cable internet service is widely available in Cambridge, has affordable introductory pricing and offers one of the best download speeds available, with the highest offering up to 1,300Mbps.

Xfinity has a competitor in fellow cable internet service provider Astound, which ultimately has the fastest download speeds of up to 1,500Mbps and just starting at $55 a month -- much lower than Xfinity. However, there is a huge drawback: Astound's availability in the area isn't as widespread as Xfinity and other competitors. What's more, Astound also offers the cheapest internet plan in Cambridge -- $20 per month for download speeds up to 300Mbps.

For Cambridge residents looking for fiber, Verizon Fios offers home internet. However, like Astound, its availability is limited. Other choices of fixed wireless providers in Cambridge include Starry Internet, T-Mobile Home Internet and Verizon 5G Home Internet. We recommend Starry Internet if you're moving into or living in a building that's wired for service.

How to find internet deals and promotions in Cambridge

The best internet deals and the top promotions in Cambridge depend on what discounts are available then. Most deals are short-lived, but we look frequently for the latest offers.

Cambridge internet providers, such as T-Mobile Home Internet and Xfinity, may offer lower introductory pricing, unlimited data or other incentives for a limited time. Many, including Starry and Verizon 5G Home Internet, run the same standard pricing year-round.

For a more extensive list of promos, check out our guide on the best internet deals.

What’s a good internet speed?

Most internet connection plans can now handle basic productivity and communication tasks. If you're looking for an internet plan that can accommodate videoconferencing, streaming video or gaming, you'll have a better experience with a more robust connection. Here's an overview of the recommended minimum download speeds for various applications, according to the FCC. Note that these are only guidelines -- and that internet speed, service and performance vary by connection type, provider and address.

For more information, refer to our guide on how much internet speed you really need.

How CNET chose the best internet providers in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Internet service providers are numerous and regional. Unlike the latest smartphone, laptop, router or kitchen tool, it’s impractical to personally test every ISP in a given city. So what’s our approach? We start by researching the pricing, availability and speed information, drawing on our own historical ISP data, the provider sites and mapping information from the Federal Communications Commission at FCC.gov.

But it doesn’t end there. We go to the FCC’s website to check our data and ensure we consider every ISP that provides service in an area. We also input local addresses on provider websites to find specific options for residents. We look at sources, including the American Customer Satisfaction Index and J.D. Power, to evaluate how happy customers are with an ISP’s service. ISP plans and prices are subject to frequent changes; all information provided is accurate as of publication.

Once we have this localized information, we ask three main questions:

While the answers to those questions are often layered and complex, the providers that come closest to “yes” on all three are the ones we recommend. When selecting the cheapest internet service, we look for the plans with the lowest monthly fee, though we also factor in things like price increases, equipment fees and contracts. Choosing the fastest internet service is relatively straightforward. We look at advertised upload and download speeds and consider real-world speed data from sources like Ookla and FCC reports. (Disclosure: Ookla is owned by the same parent company as CNET, Ziff Davis.)

Why you can trust us

Cambridge, Massachusetts has joined a growing list of cities that have banned gas-powered leaf blowers. The city’s ban went into effect over the weekend, and officials noted this move was in the interest of public health and reducing emissions for the environment.

Cambridge first passed the Leaf Blower Ordinance back in December 2023, but the ban took effect starting March 15 to give property owners time to change to alternative equipment. The ban currently applies to private use of leaf blowers, and residents will need to use electric or rechargeable battery-powered leaf blowers rather than gas. The leaf blowers also need to meet sound level requirements in the city’s ordinance to reduce noise pollution.

On March 15, 2026, the ban will extend and begin applying to the use of leaf blowers in professional landscaping as well. The city has compiled a list of businesses that already meet the electric or battery-powered leaf blower requirements, which could be helpful for customers looking for a greener lawn care option.

However, some people have voiced concerns over increasing landscaping costs and lower power from electric models compared to gas.

Keri Brown, co-owner of R&S Landscaping, one of the companies in the list of compliant businesses, told The Boston Globe that using electric leaf blowers can take about 20% to 50% more time to clear out leaves compared to gas but that this was “a sign of the times,” and “It was going to happen, sooner or later.”

Some landscaping experts also said that residents may need to relax their expectations for picture-perfect landscaping as the city transitions to electric leaf blowers.

“Prices will go up for maintenance in Cambridge if people want the same garden aesthetic that they have,” Catherine Brownlee, managing director of Landscape Collaborative, Inc., another company on the compliant list, told The Boston Globe. “It’s just going to take a lot more time.”

Brownlee told The Boston Globe that some residents of Cambridge have already complained when comparing to lawns that used gas-powered leaf blowers, but a city-wide move to electric leaf blowers could change some minds that are more accepting of less pristine lawns.

To lower the costs for businesses and, by extension, consumers, Massachusetts State Representative Michelle Ciccolo has submitted a petition for a law that would offer tax credits for the purchase of electric landscaping equipment, such as leaf blowers, for small landscaping businesses, Clean Technica reported.

The proposed legislation would “reduce the business’s tax liability for that year by 40% of the cost of purchasing said low noise, low emissions equipment up to an annual total of no more than ten thousand dollars.”

While the initial cost to transition equipment could be high, Clean Technica reported that the long-term costs could be lower, with daily fuel costs lowering by up to two-thirds when there is no longer a need to buy gas.

According to the government of Cambridge, switching to electric or battery-powered leaf blowers could reduce noise pollution, improve air quality and minimize harms to the environment. The government noted that the noise is disruptive to humans and wildlife, and the stronger airflower from gas-powered leaf blowers can damage topsoil and plants. Further, the emissions from using a gas-powered leaf blower for one hour is nearly equivalent to the emissions from driving a light-duty passenger car for 1,100 miles, according to the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

“I wish the whole state would move to it,” Cambridge City Councilor Patricia Nolan told The Boston Globe. “It makes no sense that we would allow something to continue to be used that’s clearly harmful to wildlife, to the soil, and to plants, and also to public health and worker safety.”

Cambridge is joining many other cities — and the state of California — in enacting bans on gas-powered leaf blowers and other polluting landscaping equipment. As The Associated Press reported, Montclair, New Jersey; Portland, Oregon; Burlington, Vermont; and Evanston, Illinois have passed bans along with Washington, DC and Montgomery County in Maryland.

India Today World Desk

Tucked inside a sleek high-rise condo complex in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in the US, advertised for its "unrivalled city views" and a stone's throw from Harvard University — an elite brothel quietly operated from a luxury apartment. At first glance, the location suggested power and prestige. Inside, it was another world: curated lighting and lavish decor, catering to a wealthy clientele that was carefully screened before entry, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. On offer was a "girlfriend experience".

Clients weren't walk-ins. The place worked like an invitation-only organisation. They had to apply to gain access, they submitted work IDs, company badges, and personal references — some even from other high-end brothels. The price of each visit could run up to $600 per hour. The brothel, prosecutors say, was designed to serve "rich and powerful men" who were into medicine, biotech, law, business and politics.

The operators rented luxury apartments to use as brothels in Watertown and Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Tysons and Fairfax, Virginia, prosecutors said, according to a report by the Associated Press.

In Massachusetts, the fallout has been swift and public.

"They chose these locations because they were trying to attract rich and powerful men who wanted to buy sex," Leah Foley, US attorney for the District of Massachusetts told WSJ.

The trial is now popular as the Cambridge Brothel Hearings.

Many fought to keep their names sealed, citing reputational damage and "embarrassing collateral consequences". But the Massachusetts Court ruled the proceedings should be public.

Han Lee, the 42-year-old madam at the centre of it all, was sentenced to four years in prison in March after pleading guilty to conspiracy to induce prostitution and money laundering.

A former sex worker herself, Lee had built the operation with clockwork precision — vetting clients for safety and to avoid law enforcement, her attorney said.

She allowed women to refuse clients or services and kept less than half of their earnings. The court ordered her to forfeit $5.5 million in profits.

One of the men caught in the scandal is Gradiant's Indian-origin CEO, Anurag Bajpayee.

Bajpayee is the CEO of Gradiant, a top wastewater treatment firm, and was arrested during a prostitution sting in early 2025. His name has now been made public after he lost a case seeking anonymity in the case.

Lucknow-born Bajpayee was a top-notch student who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and built Gradiant, a global powerhouse, now valued at over $1 billion. Gradiant has defended Bajpayee.

Former detectives told The Wall Street Journal they were struck by the brothel’s exclusivity, especially by how many highly educated professionals were willing to hand over sensitive personal information.

One of them, authorities allege, was 56-year-old Jonathan Lanfear, CEO of HiberCell, a biotech company developing cutting-edge cancer therapies.

Police told WSJ they recovered a trove of Lanfear's personal documents from the brothel’s phone, including a photo of his Takeda Pharmaceuticals work ID (where he was previously employed), his driving licence, credit card, and even a selfie.

Prosecutors say he arranged at least 10 encounters, including one on June 27, 2023, when he texted the brothel asking for a woman named Wren. She was available — but the reply included a warning: "Only GFE Services, No BB Services!!" (GFE referring to the "Girlfriend Experience", and BB meaning condom-less sex).

Lanfear allegedly agreed to pay $340 an hour.

But as he left the building, unaware that investigators had installed hallway cameras, he was stopped by detectives. He told them he had been visiting a friend. His attorney argues that prosecutors have not proven the money changed hands or that Lanfear knew he was visiting a brothel.

"There are a lot of conclusions that are drawn," said defence attorney David Yannetti at a recent hearing. "There’s no sufficient evidence to back up those conclusions." The court disagreed. Lanfear is now set to be arraigned on a misdemeanor charge, same as Bajpayee.

For anti-trafficking advocates, the case is of vital importance.

"I would hope that them getting named makes others think twice about what they’re doing," Ivette Monge, a trafficking survivor, told WSJ. Monge now works with Ready Inspire Act, a nonprofit supporting women exploited through trafficking.
