Twelfth Night is a play in which almost all the characters are afflicted with the same disease: love. It is filled with comedy and romance amid mistaken identities, a wedding, misunderstandings, and physical comedy. But, in the end, as in all Shakespeare's romantic comedies, it is based on love leading to marriage.

Separated from her twin brother, Sebastian, and disguised as a boy, Viola works for the Duke Orsino, with whom she has fallen in love. Orsino, in love with the Countess Olivia, sends Viola to court her for him, but Olivia falls for Viola instead. Sebastian arrives, causing a flood of mistaken identity, and marries Olivia. Viola then reveals she is a girl and marries Orsino.

Pack your picnic basket, bring the whole family, and immerse yourself in this enchanted world of music, movement, and magic. Let Inferno Theatre lead you on a marvelous romp, filled with Shakespearean verse, compelling physical theater, fantasy, ensemble music, and amazing slapstick.

Bea Karnes, Patch Staff

BERKELEY, CA — The Berkeley Fire Department is stepping up wildfire prevention efforts with its Resident Assistance Program (RAP), designed to help property owners comply with defensible space regulations.

The program provides financial and logistical support to residents who are physically unable or financially unable to clear vegetation and meet safety standards.

Defensible space—the buffer between a building and the surrounding grass, trees, shrubs, or wildland—is critical to slowing or stopping the spread of wildfire.

Through RAP, the Berkeley Fire Department will fund contractors to complete vegetation management work for eligible homeowners, helping to protect both individual properties and surrounding neighborhoods. “When residents can’t create defensible space due to age, disability, or financial hardship, they face higher fire risks and possible penalties,” a fire department spokesperson said.

“The Resident Assistance Program helps make wildfire safety more accessible and achievable for everyone.”

Find out what's happening in Berkeleyfor free with the latest updates from Patch.

The program is not currently accepting applications as the department works to secure additional grant funding. Contact the program administrator by email to make a donation or for more information: FireSafeBerkeley@berkeleyca.gov.

Updates on program availability will be shared through the department’s website and direct community outreach.

In its most recent cycle, RAP successfully helped dozens of households reduce fire hazards and improve safety compliance. Residents are encouraged to check the Berkeley Fire Department’s announcement page for updates and application details once the program reopens.

With wildfire season approaching, the department emphasizes the importance of early preparation and community-wide participation in fire prevention efforts.

BEAR NECESSITIES INDIANA & MICHIGAN RECAP The Bears picked up a pair of road victories against top-15 squads last weekend, defeating No. 10 Indiana 19-10 on March 29 before besting the 15th-ranked Wolverines 14-10 the following day. Freshman standout Miriam Bogachenko set the tone for the weekend with a five-goal outing against the Hoosiers; it was the second time in three games that the Cal rookie had put up five or more goals. Bogachenko scored once against Michigan as the Bears used a balanced attack of nine goal-scorers to roll to their 15th win of the year. Cal jumped ahead immediately in the second game of the weekend, taking a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, and led 12-6 through three periods.

ALL EYES ON RUBY Ruby Swadling was named to the Cutino Award Watch List on March 21. The award recognizes the nation's top 20 water polo student-athletes, as submitted by varsity college coaches, for their outstanding play. Swadling joins Isabel Williams (2023-24) and Cecily Turner (2023) as the only Bears who have earned the honor since the watch list began in 2023.

Swadling – a two-time All-American who missed the 2024 season to train with the Australia National Team – leads Cal with 45 goals scored this season, having netted five across Cal's two wins against Indiana and Michigan last week. She crossed the 100-goal career milestone back on Jan. 26.

WHAT A START Despite losing key players from last year's lineup, the Bears picked up where they left off following their historic run to the 2024 NCAA championship game. They began the year 9-0 for the fifth time in program history and started 13-2 for their best mark through 15 games since 2016. All 15 of Cal's wins have come against teams with top-20 national rankings.
