BATON ROUGE, La. – The two-time reigning Southland Conference Tournament champion Southeastern Louisiana University softball team dropped a 14-1 decision to No. 19 Nebraska in the winner's bracket game of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional Saturday at Tiger Park.

Southeastern (49-15) moves on to face the winner of Saturday's elimination game between No. 10 LSU and UConn Saturday at 5 p.m. Nebraska awaits the surviving team of Saturday's action in the regional championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.

Nebraska jumped on top in the top of the first inning. A three-run home run by Hannah Camerzind staked the Huskers to an early 3-0 advantage.

SLU answered against USA Softball National Player of the Year finalist Jordy Bahl in the bottom of the first inning. Shelby Morris drew a leadoff walk and scored on an RBI single by Cydnee Schneider to pull Southeastern within, 3-1.

Nebraska loaded the bases against SLU starter Hallie Burns (12-6) in the top of the second inning. Britney Lewinski came in for the Lady Lions and forced Ava Kuszak to line out to Maria Detillier to keep the deficit at 3-1.

The Huskers added to their tally in the top of the third inning. Bella Bacon doubled home the frame's first run, then another run came in on a bases loaded wild pitch. Samantha Bland singled home the next run, then Ava Kuszak drummed a grand slam to straight away center to give Nebraska a commanding 10-1 lead.

Nebraska added to its tally in the top of the fourth inning. Back-to-back home runs by Bahl and Bland keyed a four-run fourth to give the Huskers a 14-1 lead.

Southeastern could not manage anything else against Bahl and suffered its first run-rule loss of 2025.

Real-ID causes real stress for one Baton Rouge resident at airport

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Nick Laborde’s head was spinning on his most recent trip to the New Orleans airport.

And it’s because his Real-ID wasn’t really working.

”They ran my ID and put it in the machine; it was a Real-ID,” said Laborde. “The lady looks at me and goes, ‘huh, that’s funny.’ That is not what you want to hear when you get to the front of the TSA line.”

Laborde ended up being shuffled along to a handful of TSA and airport employees. His boarding time is just a handful of minutes away.

Luckily, there was a solution.

“Meanwhile, everyone’s trying to get on their plane,” emphasized Laborde. “And then another agent comes up, seeing everything going on, and says, ‘Do you have LA Wallet?’”

Laborde had the LA wallet app and stored a digital copy of his ID that worked. After getting the go-ahead, he made it to his flight with mere moments to spare.

A test program in eight different cities, including New Orleans, started accepting digital ID a year ago. Now, the Baton Rouge airport has started accepting them this week.

“It has to be Real-ID compliant, a Real-ID actual license, but you can use that digital LA wallet to access the checkpoint if it’s Real-ID compliant,” said the assistant director of aviation at BTR, Louis Hubbard.

He says in our fast-paced world, this development simply makes sense.

”Today, everybody has their phones in their hand and stuff like that,” voiced Hubbard. “Anything you can do from an efficiency standpoint to allow them to use those phones, those digital platforms. You know, I think it goes the distance.”Laborde says he’s planning on taking a trip to the OMV to find out what’s going on with his physical ID.

There’s just one problem…

“I found out that the next one wasn’t till near the end of June,” laughed Laborde. “So, at the end of June, I’m going to go back and hopefully they can replace it.”

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A popular seafood restaurant is coming back to Baton Rouge after temporarily closing down earlier this year while its owners searched for a new location.

The owners announced Drago’s Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar will reopen this summer at Perkins Rowe.

“The Baton Rouge opening is not just a new location—it’s a homecoming,” wrote Drago’s management in a post on Facebook. “After their lease was bought out at the previous Baton Rouge location, the Drago’s family has been determined to return and reconnect with the city.”

Drago’s former location was on Constitution Street.

According to a spokesperson with Perkins Rowe, Drago’s will now occupy 7,319 square feet of second-generation space in Town Square next to Sunglass Hut and across from CPK.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Drago’s to the lineup—bringing with them not only their legendary Charbroiled Oysters, but also a rich history of family, tradition, and Louisiana flavor,” said Perkins Rowe General Manager Bryan LeBlanc. “Their arrival is a true celebration of local culinary culture, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with our community.”

Drago and Klara Cvitanovich founded the restaurant in 1969.

“I am really excited to re-open in Baton Rouge and add Breakfast like our Original Metairie location,” said Tommy Cvitanovich, the restaurant’s current owner and son of its founders. “This location is ‘extra cool’ with all the events outside our front door in the Square.”

A date for Drago’s grand reopening has not been announced. Details will be released when they become available.
