One of the best pizzerias in North Carolina — arguably one of the best on the East Coast — will expand to RTP later this year.
Cary’s Di Fara Pizza Tavern is opening a new location in the Horsehoe at Hub RTP, a new development that’s quickly becoming a foodie wonderland.
Di Fara Pizza Tavern is owned by Gregory Norton, the nephew of the late famed pizzaiolo Domenico DeMarco, who founded Brooklyn Di Fara in 1965, often talked about as the best pizza in America.
“We are excited for this expansion in the Triangle,” said Gregory Norton, co-owner of Di Fara Pizza Tavern’s Cary and Horseshoe locations in a news release. “Horseshoe at Hub RTP is a prime location for some of our loyal guests and we look forward to meeting many new guests, including the new residents and workers in the vibrant Hub RTP community.”
Cary’s Di Fara makes its pizzas in the same way as the original, even using an expensive water filtration device to mimic the water chemistry of Brooklyn.
The new Di Fara is expected to open in December.
The pizza is served as large 18 inch thin crust pies, cupping pepperoni and other gourmet toppings.
Di Fara’s expansion will be 4,000 square feet, much larger than the location in downtown Cary. Situated along the Horseshoe courtyard, the new Di Fara will have 145 seats inside, another 90 on an outdoor patio and a private dining room for 32. Uniquely, there will be a walk-up window where diners can order gelato and drinks while waiting for a table to open up.
“White Point and the Research Triangle Foundation of NC are thrilled to have another established culinary brand joining the Horseshoe community,” said Erik Johnson, co-founder of White Point, the owner of Horseshoe at Hub RTP. “Di Fara Pizza Tavern will be a welcome addition.”
At Horseshoe, Di Fara joins an impressive restaurant roster, led by Prime STQ, a new barbecue-centric steakhouse; Cheeni, a new location of the acclaimed Indian restaurant; Nanny Goat, a grab and go gourmet market; and Drift Coffee + Kitchen.
“Horseshoe at Hub RTP is quickly becoming a dynamic destination where top-tier dining, entertainment and innovation come together,” says Carolyn Coia, vice president of real estate at Research Triangle Foundation of North Carolina in a news release.
“Di Fara Pizza is a classic addition to our growing community, bringing authentic New York style pizza and craftsmanship passed down through generations. As we continue shaping a vibrant, walkable downtown for Research Triangle Park, we’re eager to welcome a restaurant that stays true to its roots and remains dedicated to quality.”

The prominent signage features naming rights sponsor First Horizon Bank throughout the 10,000-seat stadium.
CARY, N.C., April 28, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- First Horizon Bank (NYSE: FHN), the North Carolina Courage, and the Town of Cary unveiled new signage at First Horizon Stadium over the weekend, celebrating their multi-year stadium naming rights partnership. The updated signage is part of a series of enhancements to the 10,000-seat venue, located within WakeMed Soccer Park. Originally announced in 2024, the naming rights agreement builds on the successful partnership between the NC Courage and First Horizon Bank, the team's official banking partner.
While WakeMed retains the sole naming rights to the wider park, First Horizon branding is visible throughout the stadium. In addition to the North Carolina Courage, the stadium is home to North Carolina FC of the USL Championship and hosts a variety of collegiate and high school sporting events throughout the year, including the NCAA Division I College Cup.
"It's exciting to see First Horizon's name in lights and across the Stadium. The expansion of this partnership is a testament to our dedication to this community and our connection with sports fans across the region," said Laura Bunn, Mid-Atlantic Regional President for First Horizon Bank. "This relationship further underscores our long-term commitment to growth and excellence – we're proud to be featured in First Horizon Stadium as the 'Official Bank of the North Carolina Courage' and thrilled to serve the community through this partnership."
"We are proud to celebrate this exciting new chapter with the official unveiling of First Horizon Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park. Our partnership with First Horizon Bank is more than a naming rights agreement—it's a strategic alignment rooted in shared values of leadership, innovation, and community impact. Together, we're not only investing in the future of women's soccer but also reinforcing the Triangle as a premier destination for sport, business, and culture," said Courage President Francie Gottsegen.
"The Town of Cary is excited to begin this new chapter with First Horizon Bank and the North Carolina Courage. The partnership not only reinforces Cary's reputation as a premier destination for sporting events but also underscores our shared commitment to providing our citizens and fans with high-quality facilities and special experiences they won't find anywhere else," said Town of Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht.

The North Carolina-based grocery store Lowes Foods is closing another location in the Triangle.
Its store at 930 High House Road in Cary will shutter, Triangle Business Journal reported.
The last day to shop the store, located at the Preston Corners shopping center at the intersection with Cary Parkway, will be Wednesday, May 14.
Kelly Davis, a senior director of guest engagement for Lowes Foods, told TBJ the company decided not to renew its lease.
The closure of the High House Road store leaves two other Lowes Foods locations in Cary — at 6430 Tryon Road and 687 Mills Park Drive. Several other grocers, including North Carolina-based Harris Teeter and Food Lion, Aldi, Lidl and Trader Joe’s, operate stores in Cary.
The nearby town of Apex also has a Lowes Foods at 5400 Apex Peakway.
Lowes Foods did not immediately respond to The News & Observer’s request for more information.
This is Lowes Foods’ latest North Carolina location to close. Last summer, the company shared that it would close stores in Raleigh (8201 Rowlock Way) and Wilmington.
These store closures were part of a “broader growth strategy to invest in new stores and remodel existing stores.”
Lowes Foods announced at the time “store openings pending” in Concord, Kannapolis and Waxhaw in North Carolina, and Indian Land and Lexington in South Carolina. The Concord location opened in August.
Lowes Foods, which is headquartered in Winston-Salem, has more than 80 stores across North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
According to a recent report, Lowes Foods had a 4% market share in Raleigh’s core-based statistical area (which includes Wake, Franklin and Johnston counties) and a 1.8% market share in the Durham-Chapel Hill core-based statistical area (which includes Durham, Orange, Chatham and Person counties) in 2024. To compare, Walmart had a more than 20% market share in both core-based statistical areas last year.

Prep Baseball opened up the summer of 2025 evaluation season with multiple events at USA Baseball's National Training Center on Tuesday May 13th. Two scout days combined with a Summer ID to bring 20 players, ranging from the 2026 - 2028 graduating classes. Players were run through a full pro-style workout with Prep Baseball Scouts recording stats, metrics, and evaluating the players throughout the evening.
The workout began with a laser timed 60 yard dash. 10 yard and 30 yard splits were recorded using the VALD laser timing system as well. Hitters then went through multiple rounds of BP with TrackMan capturing ball flight data off the bat. Defensive workouts followed with each player working out at their defensive position, showcasing movement, arm path, release, carry and accuracy. The day finished with pitchers throwing bullpens where TrackMan was again recording the ball flight data out of the hand.
The Marucci Warriors and Orange County Crushers each brought players from their organization for the Scout Day. Scout Days allow for organizations to setup a workout for their players, giving them verified metrics and professionally edited video to host on their Prep Baseball player profile. The Team Carolina Summer ID provided an opportunity for high school players to update their Prep Baseball profiles as well. Players evaluated are eligible for selection to Team Carolina events which include the NC/SC Border Battle, Future Games, Sr. Future Games, Jr. Future Games, Super Sophomore Games and the Top Prospect Games.
