Rancho Cucamonga right-hander Sean Linan has been lights out in all three appearances so far this season, and on Monday was named the California League pitcher of the week.

The 20-year-old struck out 10 in 5⅔ scoreless innings on Friday in a no-decision against San Jose, allowing only a single and a walk. It’s the second double-digit-strikeout game for Linan this season, after his career-best 11 strikeouts on April 6 against Lake Elsinore.

In three games for Low-A Rancho Cucamonga this season, Linan has a minuscule 1.15 ERA, having allowed only two runs in his 15⅔ innings, with only three walks to go with his 29 strikeouts and 51.8-percent strikeout rate.

The Dodgers signed Linan in 2022 out of Colombia. Last year he split time between the Arizona Complex League and (mostly) Rancho Cucamonga, with a 4.37 ERA in 70 innings, with 93 strikeouts (a 31.3-percent rate) and 26 walks.

With the Quakes last season Linan had a 9.7-percent walk rate, and this year he has walked only three of his first 56 batters faced (5.4 percent).

Linan got into one major league Cactus League game with the Dodgers this spring training, on March 2, and struck out his only batter faced — White Sox infielder and former Dodger Jacob Amaya — throwing three sinkers 93-94 mph and finished off the five-pitch at-bat with a changeup for a called strike three.

Linan is the second Dodgers minor leaguer to win a weekly award this season, Oklahoma City infielder Michael Chavis won Pacific Coast League player of the week last week in Triple-A.
