The California Farm Bureau said immigration raids are having a “disruptive effect” on the state’s agricultural economy, but expressed hope after President Trump promised to limit enforcement in some industries.

“The current approach to federal immigration enforcement is having a disruptive effect on California’s rural communities and the farmers, ranchers, workers and families who live and work there,” said Bryan Little, senior director of policy advocacy at the Farm Bureau.

“If federal immigration enforcement activities continue in this direction, it will become increasingly difficult to produce food, process it and get it onto grocery store shelves.”

The Sacramento-based organization is the principal advocate for California farmers and ranchers, who are collectively responsible for a third of the nation’s agricultural production.

The Farm Bureau issued a statement Friday afternoon after Trump indicated via his Truth Social network that long-time workers may be spared from deportation raids.

“Our great Farmers and people in the Hotel and Leisure business have been stating that our very aggressive policy on immigration is taking very good, long time workers away from them, with those jobs being almost impossible to replace,” Trump wrote.

“In many cases the Criminals allowed into our Country by the VERY Stupid Biden Open Borders Policy are applying for those jobs. This is not good. We must protect our Farmers, but get the CRIMINALS OUT OF THE USA. Changes are coming!”

The New York Times reported Friday that ICE has been ordered to limit raids on farms, meat-packing plants, restaurants and hotels.

The newspaper quoted an email sent Thursday by a top ICE official stating, “Effective today, please hold on all work site enforcement investigations/operations on agriculture (including aquaculture and meat packing plants), restaurants and operating hotels.

Little said the Farm Bureau is “encouraged that the president has signaled the need for more discrete and circumspect action to reduce disruption of farming operations.”

SAN DIEGO, CA — San Diego International Airport Friday opened the second stage of the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza, adding around 2,400 more airport parking spaces.

The plaza now has a total of 5,200 parking spaces adjacent to the existing Terminal 1 and the New T1, is scheduled to open in September 2025.

"We opened the first stage of the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza in August 2024, which more than doubled the number of parking spaces we offered at the previous Terminal 1 parking lot," said Kimberly Becker, president and CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. "We have a significant demand for onsite parking at SAN and the opening of stage 2 allows us to better provide that for our customers. We now have nearly 8,500 close-in parking spaces at Terminal 1 and 2 at SAN."

To access the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza, drivers can follow directional signs along westbound and eastbound North Harbor Drive. The entry and exit lanes have ticket kiosks equipped with an intercom system that connects with the airport's parking management office, an airport authority statement reads.

The plaza is made up of three color-coded sections to help travelers find their vehicles, along with glass-backed elevators and open stairwells intended to provide safety to travelers. Additionally, a free tire-inflation station is near the exit on Level 1, and luggage carts are available on all levels.

A total of 1,023 spots are designated for carpool, electric and hybrid vehicles, 20 for close-in 1-hour spaces and 185 spaces with EV charging ports.

According to the airport authority, a parking guidance system will allow customers to quickly find open stalls, reducing vehicle emissions.

Vehicles that enter and exit the parking plaza in under 10 minutes will not be charged for parking.

As military strategist William S. Lind has written, “Combined arms hits the enemy with two or more arms simultaneously in such a manner that the actions he must take to defend himself from one make him more vulnerable to another.”

Nazi Germany was an early adopter, allowing it to quickly sweep through Western Europe during the early months of the war. Despite having the world’s largest army at the time, France was committed to static defenses rather than rigorous offense and fell in just a few weeks.

The squabbling over money and accountability seems to be increasing as homelessness and the public’s concern grow.

After months of complaining about local inaction and threatening penalties for failure, Newsom omitted the local allocation from the revised 2025-26 budget he unveiled in May, drawing a new chorus of complaints from local officials.

This week, in its version of the budget, legislative leaders also shunned a new allocation of funds but instead included weasel words of intention to give the locals $500 million — half the usual amount — sometime next year.

Not surprisingly, the California State Association of Counties immediately complained about the Legislature’s mealy-mouthed approach, as did the organization representing the state’s largest cities. The mayors of three Bay Area cities — San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland — weighed in as well.

“If the state wants to call homelessness a crisis, they need to treat it like one,” the mayors said in a public statement. “Cities like ours have been asked to lead — and we are. But here’s the truth: we cannot solve a statewide crisis if the state won’t show up.

“We’ve heard again and again that Sacramento doesn’t want to fund failure. Our answer: don’t abandon success.”

The counties’ criticism of the state budget’s semi-abandonment of local homelessness financing includes a suggestion that California adopt a combined arms approach in which the roles of the state, counties and cities are carefully delineated to reduce confusion over accountability and maximize effectiveness.

Unless something like that is adopted, homelessness will continue to confound and anger California’s voters while officials, from the governor down, merely point fingers of blame at each other.
