TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Members of the East Texas State Fair announced a professional rodeo that visitors will be able to attend in September.

The rodeo arena will be temporary and able to hold 2,500 people.

East Texas State Fair Chairman Michael Stoltz said that the event is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, and that winnings will count towards qualification at a national competition.

President and Chief Executive Officer of the East Texas State Fair Cody Rosenbalm said the rodeo acts as an extension of the fair’s goals.

“Rodeo tells the story of how ranchers work their cattle,” Rosenbalm said. “It still plays into our mission of educating the public and bringing them closer to agriculture.”

“We see this as a long-term move for the fair,” Rosenbalm added.

Smith County Precinct 3 Commissioner J Scott Herod expects the rodeo will help East Texas businesses.

“When you add on the component of a three-day rodeo, you’re bringing in people from well outside the county, well outside the city of Tyler,” Herod said. “It creates additional revenue for the county as a whole.”

The rodeo will last from Sept. 19-21. Tickets go on sale on Aug. 1.

The East Texas State Fair is bringing an exciting new experience to Tyler with the addition of a PRORODEO during the 2025 Fair. Fair organizers, in partnership with Cavender’s, are excited to bring a PRCA-sanctioned rodeo to the Rose City, welcoming PRORODEO athletes across the country to East Texas.

Cody Rosenbalm, President and CEO of the East Texas State Fair, expressed his excitement about the rodeo’s debut and its significance for the fair and the community.

“The addition of rodeo marks a major milestone for the East Texas State Fair and our community. As the East Texas State Fair continues to expand, rodeo perfectly aligns with our mission of showcasing agriculture while providing family-friendly entertainment. We are proud to partner with PRCA and look forward to growing together,” said Rosenbalm.

The rodeo will take place during the first weekend of the fair, Sept.19–21, and will feature thrilling events such as bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping, along with entertainment for fans of all ages. Rodeo tickets will include admission to the fair, providing great value for attendees. Mutton bustin’, a crowd favorite, will also be a highlight of the event, with registration opening in the summer.
