Distracted driving has led to an insane number of crashes in Wichita Falls over the last year. According to News Channel 6, nearly 1,000 crashes were caused by distracted driving. While I’ve never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, I do know how to use a calculator and that comes out to almost 3 crashes per day.

Think about it – that's roughly 3 crashes every day that were 100% avoidable. Nobody’s perfect, and we all know accidents happen, but if it happens because we’re looking at our phones, we need to take a good, hard look at ourselves and ask if that text, call, or whatever was worth it. My best guess is that the answer would be "no".

This isn’t the first time I’ve complained about distracted driving on this platform, and I highly doubt that it will be the last. Because the fact of the matter is that I see someone staring at or messing with their phone while driving every single day. I just don’t get it.

Maybe it’s because I was blessed to have been raised by parents who drove for a living. When I was growing up, they taught me that when you’re behind the wheel of a vehicle, that is your number 1 priority. Period. That advice stuck with me to the point that I get uncomfortable messing with the radio while driving.

So, with April being Distracted Driving Awareness Month, I figured I would share the statistics for the city I’ve called home since 2009 in hopes that it would serve as a wake-up call for the community. The way I see it, if it reaches one person, it was worth it.

If you pick up your prescriptions from this location, you will soon have to go elsewhere in Wichita Falls.

It was back in February we first reported that CVS Pharmacy would be closing around 270 stores throughout the country. Wichita Falls is currently home to three CVS stores, which it looks like that number will be going down to two starting in May. CVS recently announced that the Wichita Falls location at 3201 Seymour Highway will close on April 30, 2025.

The good news is that employees at this location have been offered comparable roles within CVS. So no one has been fired. However, if you use this location for prescriptions. They're being transferred to the CVS at 3601 Jacksboro Highway. If you would prefer the other Wichita Falls CVS at 4600 Southwest Parkway. You can arrange to have them sent there instead. CVS told Times Record News anyone expecting prescriptions will have no issue with this store closing.

Why Are CVS Pharmacy's Closing Throughout the Country?

When CVS announced they were closing 270 locations. They announced the issue with these stores as overlap within the different markets. CVS said that any of the 270 stores closing would not affect anyone still being within ten miles of a CVS. They will still have over 9,000 locations across America alone after all these closings.

A new thing for CVS is taking over the Pharmacy within Target. Although nothing has been announced for our Wichita Falls Target. Many Target locations across Texas use CVS as their pharmacy name.

Now that the weather is getting nicer, The Art Walk is making its triumphant return. Looks like the event is going to be even bigger this year.

Just in case you're new to Wichita Falls. The Art Walk is an event that happens the first Thursday of every month in downtown Wichita Falls from April to October. Basically local artists and vendors setup in downtown Wichita Falls to show off their skills. Pretty much the entirety of downtown Wichita Falls turns into one big party. Many businesses stay open later with all the extra foot traffic downtown. The event starts around 5:30pm. and goes to around 9pm.

After Hours Artwalk Now Closing an Entire Street for the Event

Obviously for many years, local artists and vendors setup on the sidewalks in front of different downtown businesses or at the Farmer's Market. This year Indiana Avenue, between 7th and 8th Streets, will be entirely shut down to street traffic. Allowing an open air art gallery in the middle of the street. This event typically brings seven to eight thousand people to downtown Wichita Falls. I will let you know, the Art Walks earlier in the year, tend to be more busy before the brutal Wichita Falls summer temperatures hit. Wichita Falls Misses These Nightclubs the Most

We reached out to our friends on Facebook to see which former Wichita Falls nightclubs they miss most, and these were their top responses.

The list of candidates for Wichita Falls city manager has been narrowed to five.

The City Council will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Tuesday to deliberate employment of a new manager. That meeting will be held in the Seminar Room of the MPEC, 1000 Fifth Street, and will be open to the public.

City spokesman Chris Horgen clarified on Monday that the council will immediately go into close executive session and no action on hiring a city manager is on the Tuesday agenda.

On Friday the city released the names of the finalists, none of whom are from Wichita Falls.

The new city manager will replace Darron Leiker, who submitted his resignation in August 2024 amid controversy.

Here are the finalists:

He is the former city manager of Roanoke, VA, population 97,170. He had that position from September 2017 until June 2024 when he resigned.

According to his LinkedIn profile He was previously deputy city manager in Amarillo and prior to that served as executive director of planning and development in College Station.

He has been the city manager of Graham, population 8,800, since October 2022.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he formerly worked as city manager of Mexia, population 6,900, for about five years and previously had worked as budget manager for the city of Fort Worth for about a year. He also has worked in municipal government positions in Florida. He was in the Marine Corps for 29 years prior to entering municipal government.

She is city manager of Clarksburg, VA, population 15,489. She has held that position since June 2023.

Her LinkedIn profile indicates this is her first job in municipal government.

He has been deputy city manager of Taylor population 17,337 since 2017.

According to his LinkedIn profile, he formerly was assistant city manager in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, population 119,000 and part of the Tulsa metroplex. Before that he was city manager of Lucas, Texas, population 5,166.

He was the city manager of Edmond, Oklahoma, population 94,428, from March 2022 until Jan. 13, 2025.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Rigby previously had been assistant city manager in Wichita, Kansas, population 400,000, and senior project manager in Mesa, Arizona, population 511,000 and part of the Phoenix metroplex.
